Luke's POV.

.

The next day at school, Mia got Ruby to sit with us at lunch. She had to stop because of her parents, but little did she know that we were going to help her stay with Michael.

She sat down next to me and sighed. "Look, I can't be here. Michael-"

"Michael isn't here." Mia cut in, glancing at me. Ruby frowned slighly and nodded.

"Okay. So why am I here?"

"We wanted to talk to you." I told her.

"About?"

"Michael."

She rolled her eyes. "Okay, so wouldn't it be better if he was here?"

"I am." Michael spoke up, approaching our table and sitting next to Mia and across from Ruby.

Ruby looked down and sighed, standing up.  "I have to go-"

"Sit." I demanded, placing my hands on her shoulders.

She closed her eyes and sat down again.

Mia looked up at Michael. "So what are we here for?"

"Ruby, I can't let you go." He breathed, taking Ruby's hands.

She looked down at their hands. "Why not?"

"Because I care about you. I want to be with you. I can't do that if you're moving away."

"According to my parents, you can't at all." Ruby mumbled.

"Ruby." He huffed.

"Sorry, Michael. I want to be with you too, it's just-"

"Complicated." He muttered.

She nodded slowly and looked up at him.

Mia cleared her throat. "Um. Michael. You're forgetting something."

He raised an eyebrow. "What?"

I kicked him under the table as he yelped in pain. "The thing."

"What thing-oh." He nodded. I rolled my eyes.

"Just continue."

"Ruby, what if I took you and your parents out to dinner? Then I could prove to them that I'm not just some wild, party freak?"

Ruby laughed and shook her head. "It doesn't work like that, Michael. It's sweet and all, but-"

"But what?" Michael frowned.

"My parents don't just agree to anything. They really don't like you."

His face fell as his shoulders slumped. "Oh."

Mia and I both exchanged worried glances.

"Uh, no. Ruby, you can convince them, right? You do want to be with Michael, don't you?" I asked quickly.

She nodded and blushed. "More than anything."

Michael smiled and blushed as well.

"Look, just try. It's worth a shot, right?" Mia looked at Ruby hopefully.

Ruby chewed on her bottom lip, nodding. "Okay. I'll try."

I breathed a sigh of relief.
