:: Lila ::

I held onto Justin's arm as he called his mom to come pick us up. I could barely control the tears that we streaming down my face. My daddy? In the hospital? I closed my eyes and sent out a quick prayer.

'Oh please, let my dad live! Don't take him from me, let me at least say goodbye!'

I opened my teary eyes to the sound of Justin stuffing his phone into his pocket. His face was sad and it looked like he'd been crying when he hadn't shed a single tear. But I knew be wanted too, he was was just holding them back. He wrapped his arms around me and held me to his chest.

"Don't cry, Li. It hurts to see you this way." he whispered as he stroked my hair softly.

I sniffled. "H-how can I not cry? Justin, my daddy's in the hospital!"

"I know." he murmered. "I know. We should go down and check out. My mom should be here in a few."

I nodded as he placed his arm around my shoulders and led me out the door of the suite. The day had been perfect. Why did this have to happen? Why?!

:: Justin ::

I checked out of the hotel and walked outside, Lila in tears in my arm. My mother had our car already parked up front and I could tell by her eyes that she'd been crying too. Lory was probably already at her husbands side and I just can't imagine Clay's reaction. But Lila. Oh how it hurt to see her this way.

"Careful." I muttered to Lila as I helped her into the car. I slid in beside her and she buried her face into my shoulder. I could already feel her tears seeping through. My mother didn't say a single word as she pulled out of the driveway. We drove in silence the whole way besides the low sound of Lila crying beside me.

-

Lila's face was blank as she stared up at the large hospital. We've been standing in front of it for over ten minutes now and Lila just wouldn't step inside. I didn't want to pressure her. I knew she wasn't ready.

"Li? Are we going to stay here forever?"

Her face expressionless, she shook her head slowly. "N-no. I'm going inside. I'm going to see daddy." She said it with courage but she didn't move. Not even the wind moved her one bit. I let out a low sigh and took Lila's hand in mine.

"C'mon, Li. Its cold out here." I told her. She sniffled, sadness taking over her once again. She nodded and we finally walked inside. The hospital smelled like medicine and basically just like any hospital or clinic. The lady at the front desk kindly smiled up at us.

"Who are you here to visit today?

I didn't have a chance to answer because Lory burst into the lobby. Lila pulled herself away from me and threw herself into her mother's arms.

"They're with me." Lory told the desk lady. I could hear Lila's crying increase as her mother joined her. I noticed a familiar face sitting on a black couch a few feet away. Clay. His face looked puffy but showed know emotion. I walked over to him, leaving Lila with her mother.

"Hey. You ok?" I sat down beside Clay. He shook his head but didn't look at me.

"Is he ok? Your dad, I mean."

Clay didn't answer. I sighed. Everything was so perfect. I just wanted to curse out the guy driving the stupid truck that hit Carson's car. But I knew it wasn't his fault. It was no ones fault. It was an accident. A horrible accident.

I could feel Lila standing over me now. I looked up at her and smiled. She smiled back weakly and looked over at her brother.

"Clay? You ok?" She asked him. Her face was puffy but she wasn't crying anymore. Clay shook his head again.

"He's not ok, Lila." he spoke. "He looks...dead."

"Don't say that!" Lila cried. "He's not dead."

Clay burst into tears and brought his face down into his hands. I could tell Lila was on the edge of tears again. I stood up and took her into the safety of my arms once more.

"Its ok. He's just going through a tough time. We all are." I told her. Lila gave me a squeeze.

"C'mon. I wanna go see Daddy." She led me over to her mother who took us towards Carson's room. I could feel Lila holding her breath as Lory twisted the door nob. What I saw made me want to close my eyes and never open them again. Lila gasped beside me and buried herself into my chest. Her dad had about a dozen IVs sticking out of him and both his legs were covered. His arms were bandaged but you could see blood seeping through some places. And his face...it looked nothing like him. One side was entirely bandaged and the other was horribly scratched up and i throught I spotted some burnt marks. I noticed he was asleep and Clay was right. He looked...not alive. But he was. I could see his chest slowly rising and falling...abnormally. Lila slowly pulled me closer to her father's bed. She sniffled and squeezed my hand. I heard the door open and shut behind us. A nurse had walked in. She smiled sadly at us.

"You must be Caron's daughter." She said looking at Lila.

Lila nodded. "Hows my Daddy? Is he going to be ok?"

The nurse looked uncomfortable. "Listen Sweetie. We don't know if your dads going to make it. We're doing everything we can to save him but...he's not responding well to the treatment."

Tears were streaming down Lila's face again. "But you have to save him!"

"We're trying, honey." The nurse said again. "Maybe you should go down to the cafeteria with your boyfriend and try to calm down."

For some reason I smiled at the word Boyfriend but Lila didn't notice. I could feel her getting angry.

"No! I'm staying here with my Daddy!"

The nurse sighed. "Sweet heart, you have to step outside for a few minutes so I can fix your daddy's IVs and refill them."

Lila was about to say something else but I stopped her. "Li, calm down. You just need to step out for a while. The nurse is right." Lila sighed and we stepped out of Carson's room. Lila's face had a mixture of sadness, anger, and frustration that it hid all the love she'd showed eariler. I held her close knowing that she's going through a tough time and that it was my job to be here for her.

"Why, Lila?" I heard someone say. I recognized the voice as Clay's. He must have come upstairs. He was standing a few feet away from us with a sad yet angry look on his face.

"Why what?" Lila asked him as she wiped away an escaped tear.

"Why did you have to runaway with him, huh? Why? We could have driven back to New York with Dad like we planned; bright and early. If it wasn't for you and him then Dad wouldn't be here!" Clay was yelling now. My eyes, and Lila's too, were wide with shock. He was blaming this on Lila? And me? Lila and I had nothing to do with this. I knew that for a fact.

Clays voice was very loud now. "Maybe it'll be best for everyone if you two just broke up! Lila, don't you see? You two together is just hurting everyone else! Your love isn't meant to be! Face it, Lila. Long distance relationships never work!" Clay threw me a glare before stomping away. His words had hit me like daggers. But I knew he was wrong. Lila and I hadn't hurt anyone. This was true love and it was meant to be. I believed that. No, I knew that! And who said anything about long distance relationships?

Suddenly a loud beeping sound came from inside Carson's room. I felt my heart stop. Lila untangled herself from my arms and ran inside the room.

"DADDY!"
