"You were a juvie too... right next to my cell."

Irene's pupils slightly trembled the moment I said that, and deep inside I knew I was spot on.

I noticed it when she passed by us in the cafe. The way she just glanced at us while having this thin smile on her face instantly brought back the image I've seen back in the juvenile detention center.

How did I even forget that face?

[One Year Ago]

"Officer Kang, is it lunch time yet? I'm getting kinda hungry over here." I groaned, checking out the familiar officer walking pass my cell. The door had a small window with bars that enabled me to peek outside, and being the carefree person that I am, I decided to talk to him.

Officer Kang stopped and looked back at my cell, chuckling. "Aigoo, you. It's almost lunch time, hang in there a bit. Ah, and don't you provoke anyone just because you're hungry!"

I scoffed, finding it ironic that he knows what I'm up to. "Fine, sir. Just make sure the kitchen ladies cook better food today."

"That's a tough call." He responded, laughing.

Somehow, we've been getting along. How can we not though? I've been staying here for almost 3 years, and he's been the most active officer handling us all. He acts all tough on the outside but I know he has a soft spot for the younger ones, and as I grew older in the cell with him witnessing my every day activities, he treats me like I'm his friend's daughter. Or maybe just his.

Just when I was about to walk back to my stuffy bed, I heard the sounds of more footsteps coming nearer and nearer.

Ah. Newbies?

I immediately peeked out the window, waiting to see who was going to pass by.

"Wuuuu. Newbie it is!" I nodded my head in amazement, probably because I haven't seen a newbie for a while. I stood there, examining the two lady officers guiding a handcuffed girl in blue clothes. She had her head down, with long black hair that was tied into a loose ponytail.

When they passed by, my eyes were fixed on the girl, just wanting to see her face. It's not everyday I see someone new, besides, something about her looks intriguing. I seldom see someone that calm as they walk in with handcuffs, and with the officers literally dragging her  to follow their pace.

But when they passed by cell, the girl slightly lifted her face like she expected me watching her, and our eyes met.

A shiver went down my spine.

And suddenly her pale lips formed a faint smile, as her eyes fix on me.

It felt like I was staring at her for so long, when it was literally just a quick glance. I held my breath after they walked away, not expecting of the peculiar eye contact. I couldn't help but to think of the possibilities of why she did that. Was it just a reflex; a harmful quick glance?
