Chapter Sixty

"Get off me."

"Not when I know..."

"Stop!"

"... That there's still hope for you." You looked her in the eyes, violet to violet.

Fuyu's lip trembled, in sadness or rage, you didn't know. "There is no hope."

You shook your head, gently letting her wrist go. "I thought the same about myself, but..." You recalled Taeru and his bronze-fire eyes. "A friend reminded me about all the good I've done. He reminded me why I'm worth it."

Your aunt shuddered, eyes closing as she shook her head. "I am worth nothing."

"My mother loved you. She trusted you with raising me. There was a reason for that."

Fuyu laughed. "You know nothing about my relationship with Sana. Our past was... complicated..."

"Then tell me about it. Tell me about who you are. Then remind you that you deserve hope."

"I will not."

"Fuyu, you're crying."

Your aunt raised a hand to her cheek, wiping a stray tear away. "Shut up."

You smiled. "Aunt... you're not a monster. Deep down, you're a human being."

"I'm... not..."

"Fuyu. I see you."

"NO YOU DON'T!!!" She screamed. She immediately covered her mouth, staring towards the door in fear.

You glanced back at it, relaxing as no one came in. Fox must have left, trusting her puppet enough to take care of you herself. You turned back to your aunt, a sad expression on your face.

"Fuyu... you told me in your genjutsu that you-"

"Stop talking." The breath was knocked out of your lungs as you were shoved against the lockers. Angry violet eyes glared at you. "Not. Another. Word."

But you felt her weakened grip- the trembling in her body. She was not as scary as she seemed.

"You love me." You whispered.

The hate on her face melted away. She turned away from you, letting you go.

You gathered yourself up, watching her closely. "You love me." You frowned. "You always have..." Things started to click into place.

"Even back then... twenty years ago..." You raked your fingers through your hair, pushing it out of your eyes. "You..." You blinked slowly. "The Council broke you and ordered you to kill my parents. No- they ordered you to kill the people you love."

The air went deathly still.

You gulped, continuing. "The Council ordered you to kill the ones you love and yet... here I am."

Fuyu turned to face you, the area under her eyes red as tears slipped out of them uncontrollably. "I hate you."

You shook your head. "You're lying. You... always lied. Even to yourself." You started to pace back and forth. "This personality you developed. This... violent, psychotic personality... it's just a shield."

Fuyu turned her back to you again.

"It's a shield- to protect the real you. To ensure that no one- not even yourself- knew that you always loved me." You stopped pacing, glancing at your hands. They were shaking. "Your other personality. She was created to hurt me. Because if I was convinced that you hated me, then the Council would be convinced too." You started pacing again. "Keeping me safe from their wrath..."
