CHAPTER 39 | She Smiled Sweetly

"You won't get lunch?" Luke Fernandez barged inside my office without knocking. 

I massaged my temple. "You didn't knock."

Humalakhak siya bago umupo sa upuan na nasa harapan ng table ko. I wanted to ignore him but his presence irritated me; I had no choice but to remove my eyeglass, and looked at him with a stoic face.

"What do you want?" 

"Lunch."

My brows knitted together. "I'm working," I stated. "Isn't it obvious?" 

"Breaktime na ah. Saka, you still owe me lunch." Napamasahe ulit ako sa templo ng ulo. I reminded myself that Luke is a friend, and I should have longer patience with him.

"I can't."

Tumango-tango siya. "Sige, pero punta ka sa engagement party ko ah?"

That. Right. How could I forget? He reminds me of it every single day. Kung wala mang trabaho ay magte-text at ipapaalala ang engagement niya. 

I think he's purposely doing it to rub in my face that he's getting married while I'm still single. 

"I'll try."

"What? Why! May iba ka bang pupuntahan?"

I nodded, thinking of my cousins. We're all busy for the past months that we didn't have time to see each other. Ngayon lang. At sakto pa sa araw ng engagement party ni Luke.

"Where will it be held again?" 

"Sa Soyoung."

My forehead ceased. "Isn't that a bar?" 

Tumawa si Luke. "Yeah. How did you know? Ikaw ha! Nagba-bar ka 'no?"

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin pero hindi siya nagpatinag, patuloy pa rin sa pang-aasar. Before Luke became my friend, he shuts his mouth the moment I give him a glare. Ngayon, kahit ata pagsalitaan ko ay tatawanan lang niya.

"So? Punta ka ha! I told my friends you'll come. Pwede ka mang-chics d'on," he convinced. 

"I'll go there," I answered, ignoring his weird statements.

It's near the bar where I'll meet my cousins, anyway. 

"Good. Lagot ka kay Raine 'pag 'di ka pumunta," he added that made me shook my head.

I was glad that they both ended up okay even after Raine revealed what she truly is to Luke. 

Nahirapan din ako sa dalawa dahil ako ang pinuntahan ni Luke dahil alam ko daw pala kung ano si Raine, at si Raine naman sa'kin lumapit para kausapin si Luke.

This couple stressed me out too much.

"Who's invited?" I asked, going back to my work.

"Si Sir Lucius, Olivia, tapos iba pang katrabaho sa floor ko. Raine invited… uh… the kids." 

I tried not to look at him when I heard that. "Kids?" I asked, hoping that my voice didn't sound too hopeful.

"Yung mga bagong binabantayan ni Raine ngayon."

Huh. 

Tumango na lang ako at wala ng sinabi pa. I wanted to ask if her friends would be there, since they're close with Raine, because if they're attending, she would probably attend, too.
