CHAPTER 19 | Friends

Pauline Cynthia Zunino’s Point of View

I was confused when I saw Raine standing by the door when Warner’s car entered the gate. She’s just standing there as if hinintay niya talaga kami makarating, but I doubt it na ganoon nga.

The last time I checked magkaawaay kami at hindi kami nagpapansinan.   

“Ako na sa gamit mo,” Warner told me as he opened the door and let me go out of his car.

Tinanguan ko lang siya, hinayaan siya na kuhain ang bags ko sa likod ng kotse niya habang ako naman ay naglakad papalapit kay Raine; questions are on my mind.

“You’re here early...” she trailed off before glancing at the gate again.

Kaagad kong nakuha kung bakit siya nandito.

Tumaas ang kilay ko. “Luke’s coming, huh?” I knew it! Hindi ako ang inaabangan niya dito kundi si Luke! A human!

Talagang tinuloy niya ang kung ano man ang meron sakanila ni Luke. I don’t know if she’s naïve or just plain stupid about the inevitable things that will happen to them.

Gaaaah! Ang aga-aga naiinis ako. This is so annoying.

“I don’t want to fight today, Pauline, pumasok ka na.” Hindi niya ako tinignan at bumaling na lang kay Warner na kakarating lang sa tabi ko. “Mr. Warner, you should come in, naghanda kami ng breakfast para sa inyo ni Pauline.” My eyes widened but I did not make it obvious. 

Pinapapasok ni Raine si Warner! What the hell is she thinking! The last time I left, there are magic books everywhere, nakasabit din sa dingding namin ang isang picture frame ng pinakaunang Royal Family na may pakpak! 

But, okay… calm down Pauline.

Raine is not that stupid, I hope. But… Cyran is inside and I don’t think I can handle his teases lalo na nandyan si Warner.

We entered the house slowly. Sinilip ko muna kung makalat ba bago ko binuksan ng malaki ang door at hinayaan si Warner bitbitin ang bags ko paloob. There is not much to see here.

“Upo ka muna,” mahina kong sabi kay Warner pagkatapos niya ilapag ang bags ko sa may gilid ng couch.

I heard something crashing in the kitchen before hearing a familiar voice. “Is that Pau already? Hindi pa tapos lutuin yung eggs!” Sigaw ng maarteng boses na sigurado akong si Sara.

They’re here? What the hell? What the hell?

“What the shit is that noise?” I turned to the stairs and saw Xavier walking down without a shirt on; he’s scrubbing his eyes closed before opening them slightly and saw me.

“Yo baby Pau.” He scruffled my hair before glancing at my shoulder and saw Warner sitting there silently.

I can’t look at him because I’m too embarrassed that he’s meeting my friends like this! And Xavier is just on his boxers! 

I did not even know they were here!

“Is that your boss?” Tanong ni Xav, wala manlang pakialam kung rinig siya ni Warner.

“Uh, yeah.”

“Mamaya na ko magpapakilala, I need to wake my brain up. I’m still sleepy.” Naglakad siya pabalik sa taas at winave ang right hand niya.

“Xav?” I called, face flushed. “Please wear a shirt.” 

Narinig ko siyang tumawa bago nawala sa paningin ko.
