"Good. Now tell me. Do you remember your name?"
You frowned again. Yes... she had said it earlier...
"(Y/N)..." You rasped out. You hadn't spoken in so long that your vocal cords forgot how to function.
The woman looked pleased. She seemed familiar...
"Do you know who I am?"
You stared at her, trying to figure it out.
A scar down her cheek. Short, curly hair. Dark eyes. Not violet.
Violet.
You blinked twice. "Aunt Fuyu?"
The woman leaned over you, letting loose a breath she seemed to have been holding. "Thank goodness. There's still some of you left..."
"What do you mean?"
She brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes. "You'll have to listen to me carefully. I'll only say it once. Do you understand?"
You nodded again.
"Good. Now listen to what I have to say. I'll take these nails out while I talk." She grabbed the hammer one of the men had set down beside you and used the opposite end of it to begin pulling a nail out of your hand.
"What you are experiencing right now is not real. This is all an illusion."
You blinked slowly. She watched your reaction and smiled weakly.
"I think part of you already knows that." She pulled the first nail free and started on the next.
"Right now, you are in a prison beneath the Council's administration building. You're lying on the ground and I am standing above you."
You opened your mouth but Fuyu shook her head.
"Don't ask questions. Just listen. I don't have much time before she realizes where I am."
"Who?"
"I just said no questions. Now be quiet." She pulled the second nail out and you closed your mouth.
She started on the third as she spoke. "This person I speak of is keeping you in this illusion. I tried to release you from it myself, but her grip is too strong." She gritted her teeth as the nail she was pulling out gave her a struggle. "So... we'll have to find... you... another way... out..." The nail gave and slid out.
"I was able to slip in here while she wasn't looking. So I could warn you of what I'm about to do and what you need to do when you get out."
Get out? There was no out.
"Now don't look at me with that hopeless expression. You're getting out of here, I promise." She pulled at the final nail but it wouldn't budge. She tried again. Nothing.
"I. Won't. Let. You. Die." She pulled with all her might. The nail finally gave. She smiled. "Never again, (Y/N). Never again." She held all four nails in the palm of her hand. Her expression turned dark.
"In just a few moments, you are going to feel an extreme amount of discomfort. I know you're used to it at this point, but this pain will be different. It will be coming from the real world." She placed the nails on the table beside you.
You slowly sat up, your senses beginning to return. Fuyu. Prison. Council.
"Forget about me, (Y/N). Get out of this place. Save our village from this horrible darkness. Free us."
"The thing about genjutsus is, they only work when the sufferer can't get a grip between reality and illusion. Any tie to the real world that's strong enough can bring a person back."
