Reader x Hewlett (Part Two)

Start from the beginning

You blushed hard. No man ever said something like that to you. To see you as not just an object to bone, not just someone below them. He looked at you as an equal, and— "Oh, thank you...I'm not used to hearing such things."

"Did I over step?" He said honestly, he was already a good arms length away but stepped back more.

"No, it's nice. I liked it. Have a good night Edmund."

"You too Miss-[Y/N]."

He began to walk away. You had to see him. You didn't know why, but you just had too. It was your heart for once, no longer your strong head. By the time you gathered your thoughts he was already caught up with the guard, you would shout but be polite. "Major! I'll come to Whitehall tomorrow, for the charades I promised you."

"Good, I shall see you then!" He waved. You lightly waved back and closed the door behind you.

The ruckus of your cows woke you. "What the-?" You got up and walked outside to see they were spooked by a raccoon that got in the pin area for the cows. You opened up gate and scared away the raccoon with a broom.

"What a start to my morning, aye Bessy?" Bessy mooed.

You quickly got back inside and got ready to return to Whitehall.

---

You arrived at Whitehall to see Mary on the porch with Little Thomas on the floor playing with a toy. "Morning Mary."

"I wouldn't go in if I was you. The Magistrate has some eligible redcoats in there. "

"Oh no..." You wanted to leave but promised Hewlett you would be here. "I wont let any of them get to me, no one is in charge of my heart but me."

"I suppose that is true." Mary took you by the hand and led you inside.

"Ah, dear daughter, welcome. I see you are wearing... pants." Your fathers tone went from glee to almost disappointment.

"I like pants." you said bluntly.

Mary grabbed your arm lightly, "I have something you can barrow." You followed Mary up the stairs and there she had several dresses to choose from; Red, Blue, Pink, or Yellow. You picked the [color of choice] dress. Mary left you in the room to change and left to attend the gathering below. You finished and looked at your reflection. You hated to admit it but you looked quite adorable, cute and attractive even. You did however keep your pants on under the dress just in case. "Well, here we go." You left the room and walked to the top of the stairway. There you could hear lots of men talking, but you couldn't hear Hewlett's voice. You finally heard him speak and felt more comfortable to head down. As you began your way the men came out into the hall and looked up as you descended the stairs. You and Hewlett locked eyes. You gave him a small smile, just a small one.

A redcoat came up to you and grabbed your hand. "Miss, It is an honor to meat you." he kissed your hand, "I'm Lieutenant Weswood." (I making him ups, cuz we needs a bad guy???) You pull your hand back. "Uh-huh."

You walk past him. "Major Hewlett, It is a pleasure."

"The pleasure is all mine." He follows.

You all gather and sit at the table. Hewlett pulls out your chair, you thank him with a head tilt. Abe was next to you, Lieutenant Weswood was in front of you and Hewlett one man next to him. Mary was across from Abe and your father at the far end of the table. "I would like to thank everyone for coming. Today we celebrate our King." your father cheers and raises a glass. "To the King!" All the redcoats cheer, you along with them but not so loud. you zone out and look at your food. Why is father doing this? Does he really wish to get rid of me so quickly...I will not let anyone get close. I want to be as closed off and uninterested as possible. A dull choose for a bride. You snap back to reality, you see everyone is talking. Gossiping. Hewlett leaned towards you at the best angle he could, "Miss [y/n], your dress is quite lovely. It suits you."

"Thank you." there is a slight blush on your face you can't control. Hewlett was about to speak once more when Lieutenant Weswood butted in. "I might say that your hair is lovely. Your eyes are brightening."

"'Brightening'?" you question him.

"I think what he means it that they look like they have stars in them." Hewlett said softly. "Oh, if that is so, I thank you." You said, patting a napkin on your lips and then lowering it to your lap. Though it seemed like you were thanking the Lieutenant you were thanking Hewlett. Do you like him? Admire him? You? You brushed it off, no one tonight. Your father starts to laugh loudly, almost shaking the table with his laughter. "Sweet daughter," he says, "This young man told me the most hilarious joke."

"Did he now?" you say disinterested. Weswood scoffed. "I have a joke for you sir, if you would like to hear it."

It hit you, this Lieutenant was seeking your hand, and he was going for it hard. You felt fear, your heart was slightly heavy, a weird sick feeling in your chest. What if you said no but your father said yes, and had you marry this man? You had bigger things to focus on. Tomorrow you had to meet with Anna and help at the tavern and discuss the ring. One problem at a time. There was a burst of laughter in the room, at the table. You let out a giggle to blend in. He looked at you with big eyes. "Glad I got a giggle, I need better jokes then?"

"Most likely." you take a sip of (favorite drink; wine, whisky, etc.). You need a distraction. "Father, tell us a story. You are so good at those." Your father started to talk and you zoned out. Is this to be my fate? Can I even Change it?
