Adira woke up the next day to the sound of keys jingling in the lock. It took her a second to grasp her surroundings and realize she was not in her cottage.

Yesterday, Adrian had brought her into what seemed like a large guest lodge (the packhouse, she was told) and told her to pick any room she pleased, before rushing to the fight. No other cabins surrounded surrounded the packhouse. A small field formed it's backyard, which was eventually swallowed by the woods. It was massive and immersed in nature.

Adira had tried to stay awake waiting but had fallen asleep on the couch. Someone had draped a blanket over her, probably not wanting to pick her up without her permission. Or maybe her weight was a little hard to pick up. Regardless, she was glad to be left alone.

Once again, the keys jingled and the doorknob finally turned to reveal a lean auburn-haired, grey-eyed pixie. Though she was smiling, something about her seemed reserved and deadly, like a jagged edge of a sheathed knife. She met Adira's confused stare and automatically dropped both her bags.

"Oh shit. I totally forgot he brought you here. I am so sorry, I just used the keys cause I know he was surveying last night's sites," she stumbled over herself to explain, her hand running through her hair.

"I'm Cassandra, Cassie for short, or whatever you want to call me. And you must be Adira, right?"

She picked the bags and dropped them on the table as she sat on the far end of the sofa tugging on the other end of Adira's comforter to cover her legs.

Something about Cassie nagged Adira's brain. Almost as if she'd heard it-

It came to her in a short rush. Adrian had asked Sebastian to cancel her ceremony and rush to defend the pack. Right. So Cassie was Adrian's ex.

Adira groaned inwardly. She hadn't been here for a day, and someone already hated her.

Adira met Cassie's smiling grey eyes, unaware that in her sleep-induced haze she'd spoken all of her thoughts out loud.

In response, Cassie's eyes dimmed. She seemed to put on a facade before using humour to deflect and settle back into her skin. "Yes, Adrian and I-- well, yesterday was our mating ceremony before he found you on his way back to pack lands. Obviously, the ceremony was the canceled, and I had to rush to fight the rogue attack like a swash-buckling saviour. It was a fun ending. I'm the head of the Alpha's warriors by the way. And we had a nice time," she grinned in a manner that raised the hairs on Adira's arms.

Able to denote her glimmer of pain, Adira wondered if she would have to go through the jealous ex trope again. Charlie had a couple of exes who were unable to let him go and had resorted to petty tactics to make her life miserable. It had not been a fun experience, and Adira was immediately wary.
