The sky is dark. And I'm walking home from school.
I have to walk home from school everyday. It's just how my parents cope with things. They could give less shits if I was kidnapped.
A car pulls up next to me as I hold onto my backpack.
"Hey little girl, need a ride somewhere?" The man asks me, with his window rolled down.
"I'm fine." I say, continuing the walk.
"No, get in the car. Unless I gotta come out there to get you."
"I'm not getting in the car. Just leave me alone." I say, running a little bit.
The mans car opens up, making me run as fast as I've never before.
"Come over here you little bitch! I just wanna show you a good time!" He screams, running after me.
Thankfully, a gas station isn't too far ahead.
I think he noticed where I was running to cause he ran back into his car and sped off.
I burst into tears, walking at a normal speed to the station.
I step on the concrete and see two cars sitting at pumps.
One being an old lady and another one but they're sitting in the car or inside the gas station.
I bite my lip and walk into the store, walking up to the drink aisle and opening a door open. I grab the cold water and shut the door.
I turn around and walk back to the register, passing an aisle.
As I pass it, a boy around 18 and I make eye contact.
I scratch the back of my neck as I just made eye contact with a really cute boy and set my water onto the counter.
"Gonna be 1.49 young lady." The cashier says, leaning against the counter.
I take out of my wallet.
I throw him two dollars and grab my water.
"Keep the change." I say, turning around to walk out and seeing that the boy was standing behind me.
"One second." I hear him say.
I run out the store and up to the driveway to get out of the parking lot but I end up tripping over a stick.
"Ow." I groan, setting my backpack down next to me and lifting up my knee.
The boy comes out of the store and notices me. He drops all his stuff.
"Fuck, he's coming over here." I mumble.
I stand up and grab my backpack, getting ready to run again.
"Hey, hey. Don't run." He says. "Is everything okay? You've been crying ever since you got here."
"I almost got kidnapped back there." I say, on the verge of tears again. "Im obviously terrified."
"Tell you what, I'll drive you where ever you need to go." He says. "Where do you..." "home." I say.
"Okay." He says. "That's fine."
He helps me up off the ground. "Can you walk?"
I look down at my badly scraped knee.
"Yeah, no." I shake my head, looking up at him.
"Put your arms around my neck." He says.
I do as he says and he lifts me up off the ground bridal style.
"Come on." He says.
"Your really cute." Comes out of my mouth.
He opens the car door. "Heh, thanks. Your not so bad either."
"Are you 19?" I ask him.
"18." He corrects me. "Give me a second." He runs back up to the gas station and grabs his bag of stuff, throwing it in the back seat and sitting back.
"There." He sighs, shutting his door.
He takes off his flannel. "Lift up your knee."
I lift it up confused. He wraps his flannel around my knee.
"Thank you." I smile a little.
"That's a smile. I needed it from you." He smiles back turning on the car.
"This a driveway. The guys in San Diego." He says, starting to drive.
"Oooo. Cool." I say.
"You okay?" He asks me.
I look out the window to see complete darkness but I turn to him. "Yeah, I guess. It was a scary moment."
"What did he say to you? If you don't mind me asking." He asks. "Jim by the way."
"Uh, he said I'll show you a good time. And stuff like that. I was walking home from school." I frown.
"School? It's 8 pm. When does it end?"
"4."
"Damn, do your parents not pick you up?" He asks me. "You a freshman?"
  "No. Sophomore."
"still is wrong." He says.
I look down at his hand resting on his thigh.
My eyes look up at his face and back down.
"Can I hold your hand?" I ask him.
"You wanna hold my hand?" He asks, turning to look at me.
   I nod.
"Sure. Um yeah." He says, flipping his hand upside down so I can grab it.
I grab it and let our intertwined hands rest on my thigh.
"Why do you want us to hold hands?" He asks.
"Cause your a cute boy and I've never held hands with one before." I say. "Is it a crime?"
"No. No." He says, looking back at the road.
"Okay, Chico." I say, looking out the window again.
"Chico? Isn't the Spanish?" He asks.
I nod. "Yep."
"Señorita, tù eres Bonita." He says.
I start to giggle a little. "Gracias. Tù eres guapo."
"What does that mean?" He asks with a smile on his face.
"Your handsome." I say.
"Gracias." He smiles.
We finally make it to my house while we go back and forth in Spanish.
I taught him seasons, greeting. All that sort of stuff.
"Here we are." He says.
   "Besame." I say.
"What's that?" He asks me, stopping the car. "Is it like a season or something? Let me guess. Spring."
I'm not saying it again, it just came out.
"Never mind. Goodnight." I say, hopping out the car.
"One second. Can I look it up in old folder I have from last year?" He asks, grabbing it from the back seat.
"Good night Jim." I say, shutting the door and walking up my driveway.
I walk inside my house and shut the front door. My parents don't get home until midnight.
  It's 9:30 p.m.
I throw my backpack on the ground and look out the window to see Jim looking through his papers still until he stops and becomes shocked.
He drops the paper and looks back at the house.
He knows what I said.
He walks out the door and slams it up, running up to the front door and knocking.
I take in a deep breath and open it to see him standing there.
"Kiss me?" He asks. "Can I do it here? Right now?"
I nod.
He puts his hands on my cheeks, planting his lips onto mine.
I wrap my arms around his neck, kissing him back.
I start to let go, kissing him one last time before letting go.
"Can I take you on a date tomorrow?" He asks, out of breath.
"Yes. What time?" I ask him.
"7?"
    "Yes." I smile.
"Do you live in this state? Illinois."
"Yep." He nods. "I'm gonna bring this driveway back and return it."
"Okay, see you tomorrow then Jim." I smile, shutting the door and daydreaming on him the rest of the night.
