This week we're doing another mix'n'match style contest.

Those are always fun!

How It Works

You, the entrant, will select a prompt from each category, and smush them together into one awesometastic tale.

This week we're focusing on story problems. That means that we're going to pay extra attention to the details in the plot and that the prompts will be tailored to best enable you to get creative.

Note: Please don't take this seriously. I'm certainly not.

Kooky Characters:

This category requires you to select two (2) (II) ( |-2| ) ( x/3 where: (918x + 72) / 90 = 62 ) characters for your story. You could select more (>) or all of them (=), but at the very least two.

Here are the twelve (12) (XII) (|-12|) ( |x/8| where: (443 + 75x) / 233 + (438x + 1909) / 979 = -70) characters you can choose from;

Sarah Anne Dower; This Apprentice to the Grim Reaper is a free thinker. She understands the world in a way that unique and wouldn't make sense to most others. Probably for the best, since they'd run screaming for the hills.

Loren Arren; This Peppy Painter is a free spirit, optimistic about the world and the people in it. She loves to be happy, and wants everybody else to be that too. Her coping mechanism is to paint it blue.

Close Wren; This veritable vagabond is looking for a place to belong, and has a keen eye for the wonders of the world. They are almost certain to feel trapped if they stay anywhere too long. Will they ever settle, or are they doomed to wander the world forever?

Morowa Kamati; Proud and Patient, this medical student strives for excellence and wants to lead her friends there too. Smart, analytical, intellectual, and only just learning to love.

Sindel Laran; This non-conformist stuntswoman is an adrenaline junky, who lives for chaos and change. She'll be the first to run for president if she feels that geckos need voting rights.

Drew Fable; This fry-chef in the local diner is much too easily enamoured with any boy or girl that orders fries than they'd like to admit. They strive to protect those they love, who happens to be everybody.

Isabella Swanson; She's a chameleon - everybody's best friend and the cross-clique sugar-wine that spices up the party. Highly unpredictable and highly contagious.

Hero Vital; The hint's in the name - this bad boy is a reluctant superhero in his spare time, mostly due to being highly competitive and a sore loser. His real ambition is to own a cake shop that isn't constantly threatened by otherworldy horrors.

Ava Shane; Ever hear about the revolution? Chances are she's the one organising it. Destructive, transgressor, careless, she likes to go against the grain and change the world for herself. She don't need no man.

Evan; This elusive character is a mystery to all. He loves to love and love and love and lavish, and loves to feel loved. He values beauty and spontaneity, like spontaneously leaving in the middle of the night.

Halley Fier; While the name inspires a holy fear, this girl is a class-comedian. She's very good at being open and honest, and doesn't take very much seriously at all. She enjoys life and has no time for the sad things in it.

Mason Montgomery; A noble name of noble birth, but this heartbroken author wears his wounds on his sleeves and writes about the disappointment of life. Victim of life since he became an orphan, this man has no hope for the future.

Plot Knots:

This category is what sets the basis for your story. Pick a location, a plot, and a theme.

A Lonesome Spaceship hurtling through the cosmos.

An Isolated Town on the brink of dying.

A Hospital on lockdown.

The Open Road of opportunity

The Wild Woodlands of mystery and magic.

The Big City that's new and full of life.

A Secret Laboratory on the verge of a breakthrough.

A Fancy Hotel hosting a wild party.

A Distant Planet setting up a mining colony.

A Prison that just lost power.

Plot:

Treachery. One of them has endangered them all.

Love. A blossom of passion grows.

Mystery. What secrets are waiting to be unraveled?

Trapped. Unable to escape from an approaching doom.

Nature. The universe is a wonderful place, what will we do with it?

Theme:

Flowers, Fire, Winter, White, Gems, Gold, Reflections, Music, Water, Conflict, Animals.

Wildcard

This category requires you to select one of the following challenges for each of your main characters.

Mute: No speaking allowed. Sorry.

Addicted: Can't let go.

Incredible Stupidity: It might make sense, but not to anybody else. Unfortunately, there is no cure.

Pop-Wizard: An absurd amount of pop-culture references gets on everybody's nerves.

Dark Secret: Consequential or not, it's still annoying that they act so suspicious.

Know-it-all: Calm down and let them do what they do. No need to backseat drive this entire journey.

Negative: We all die eventually, but...

Troubled: Somebody has something heavy weighing on their mind, but NOW IS NOT THE TIME JANET!

The Good Ol' Days: All they can talk about is how good things used to be.

Secret Weapon: They're convinced this going to save them all, but nobody really understands how a hairbrush might help.

Self-Aware: They're fully aware that they're a character in a story, and how they deal with that is their own problem.

Helping Hand: A team might be able to solve problems, but when one of the members has to be constantly cared for before they set themselves on fire, they might just be better off ejected into the vacuum of space.

Final Notes:

If anything is unclear, then take that as your cue to do as you please. I'm not going to be rigorous with this contest. In fact, I encourage you to make up your own prompts and characters to include as well, in addition to your own challenges and locations.

I look forward to the zany brainy ideas you can come up with, and I'll see you on the flipside.

Tmbrwlf out, yo.
