The Narrator

After two days, in La Paz, the rain had ceased, and the classmates of Shifaly were enjoying themselves by the rooftop swimming pool, from which they could see the beautiful mountains around La Paz. The song 'Something Just Like This' by Coldplay was playing on the speakers.

After swimming for a while, Shifaly changed back to her usual clothing and walked with Avanthi Bandaranaike to her room. They had enough of swimming.

In Shifaly's room, Avanthi, being a girl, occupied herself with exploring Shifaly's cosmetics and possessions. As she was doing this, suddenly, her hand came across the passport.

"Whose is this, Shifaly?" asked Avanthi. "An Irish passport? Are you Irish?"

"No! I found this under the bed when I was searching for my necklace. I thought of alerting the concierge but was curious to see its contents. There were a lot of American entry stamps in the passport. It might belong to a tourist here."

"Hmmm. Let me see." Avanthi opened to the information page of the booklet "Ó Gallchobhair. Born in Termonfeckin, Ireland. Passport renewed on August 7th, 2018 at the Irish Consulate in Alabama." Before she could look into the other pages, someone barged into the room. "What the —." Avanthi dropped the passport on the floor. How did he get in?

"How dare you, Idiot!" yelled Basura, dripping wet, pointing his finger at Shifaly.

Avanthi understood why he was there. Shifaly had taken revenge on Basura for pushing her the day before the previous day on the bus. She had pushed him when he least expected it, into the pool, and the poor boy didn't know how to swim. Agash and Malindu had to help him out. He was so terrified by the whole ordeal that he didn't confront Shifaly immediately. Instead, he went it into the hotel and vowed to seek his revenge later. And there he was at Shifaly's bedroom, seeking vengeance. How many times I have to tell you, Shifaly. Don't mess with Basura!

"Dude, get out of my room!" yelled Shifaly, frantically. Beads of sweat were dripping from her hair as she gulped, walking backward.

Basura's companion, Agash Swarnasinghe, warned him, "Someone is coming, let's leave, or we will be in trouble."

"Ayyy shut up, man," snapped Basura. "Let me show you what happens to those who dare to mess with me," he told Shifaly.

What is he gonna do? Even if I scream, no one will hear, she thought as she looked at Avanthi, who returned the same surprised look. Then her eyes fell on a plastic bag he was carrying. An overwhelming odor emanated from it. Whatever he had inside was something unpleasant.

As Shifaly slowly moved towards the corner of the room, Basura lifted the bag and flung it on Shifaly's face. As the bag flew across the room, the knot tying it loosened and its contents engulfed Shifaly's face. Some of it fell on the bedsheets and the floor. Avanthi opened her mouth in shock at what she saw. She couldn't unsee it.

 She couldn't unsee it
