Chapter 1 - Moonlark

"Stop in the name of the King!" a guard cried from behind. I rolled my eyes. As if we would stop just because they said so.

"Are we close Moonlark?" the black haired girl on my right called out. Moonlark. That has been my code name for about 6 years. The girl on my right was Flooder.

"We need a cliff!" I said back, still running in between my two allies.

"I sense one ahead." The black haired boy on my left yelled toward me. That's Shadow.

"Let's go!" I yelled, I felt energy surge through me as we continued running. Close to the cliff, a figure appeared in front of me.

"I command you to stop!" It turned out to be Prince Fitzroy. I sneered. I hated Royals so much. Of course they would be out to find me.

"Well if it isn't Prince Fitzroy." I said, mimicking his voice so he wouldn't hear my real voice. I raised my hands up to stop the others from attacking. "What can I do to owe you such an honor?" I asked mockingly in his own voice.

"Surrender and face a fair trial of death or else!" he yelled fiercely. I sneered. As fierce as he sounded, he could do nothing.

"As if!" I yelled in his voice. I closed my eyes and focused on enhancing Shadow. He raised his hand and shadows around us. When his shadows were enhanced, he could control shadowflux easily and his shadows can become barriers.

"Ready?" Flooder whisper shouted. We nodded and jumped off the cliff.

"We'll leave you with a little gift to remember us!" Shadow yelled as we started falling. I closed my eyes and focused on Havenfield. In a flash, we teleported over to Havenfield. I sighed as we landed on the soft pastures of Havenfield.

"Remember to hide the cloaks." I said as I took mine off and hid it in the Black Swan's hiding place in Havenfield. We walked in and I immediately got hugged by Grady.

"Hey Sophie!" he said. "Hey Tam. Hey Linh." he said, nodding behind me. I wrinkled my nose as I pushed him away.

"You smell." I said. Tam and Linh started snickering as Grady showed me an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, I was just brushing Verdi's teeth." he said.

"Anyways! I'm going to go up with them to my room." I said.

Edaline nodded and said, "I'll conjure you guys some custard bursts later."

"Yes." I said, grinning like crazy. Tam and Linh laughed behind me as we walked up to my room. "Hey Sandor." I said, nodding at my bodyguard that was glaring at me.

"I'm surprised he didn't give you a lecture this time!" Tam remarked.

"Or lock you up in your room until you become an Ancient!" Linh said, giggling. I laughed and rolled my eyes.

"You want to have a sleepover with the other members?" I asked, collapsing on my bed.

"Sure." Tam said.

"Then we can also show them what we stole today." Linh said, collapsing on the bed next to me. I nodded and took out my Imparter.

"Hail Dex Diznee." I said into the Imparter. Dex's face appeared and his dimples appeared as he smiled.

"What's up Moonlark!" he said.

"How're you doing, Pixel." I said grinning. "Linh, Tam, and I are back from are latest plan. You want to come over for a sleepover and see what we stole?"

"Sure! See you in a bit!" Dex said. I nodded and closed my video.

"Hail Marella." I said into the Imparter. Marella's face appeared and she flicked her hair.

"What's up Moonlark?" Marella asked, grinning.

"How're you doing, Flamethrower." I said. "Linh, Tam, and I are back from are latest plan. You want to come over for a sleepover and see what we stole?"

Marella nodded and said, "Be there in a bit!"

"Hail Wylie." I said. Wylie appeared smiling.

"Hey Flooder. Hey Moonlark!" he said grinning.

"Wow. Saying Linh's name first before our leader huh?" Tam said, smirking as if finding a child in trouble. Wylie grinned and shrugged.

"How're you doing, Shiner?" I said, rolling my eyes at Tam. "Linh, Tam, and I are back from are latest plan. You want to come over for a sleepover and see what we stole?" He nodded and disappeared.

"Hail Biana." I said. Biana was the princess. The only Royal I liked because she was part of the Black Swan. She hated the Royals power as much as us.

"What's up Moonlark!" Biana whispered, going over to lock her door. She could never talk to us without making sure her family didn't overhear.

"What's up, Invisible." I said. "Linh, Tam, and I are back from are latest plan. You want to come over for a sleepover and see what we stole?" Biana frowned and sighed, frustrated.

"I can't. My dad wants to have a family meeting about something. It's probably useless and boring." Biana said, rolling her eyes.

"Oh alright. We'll show you some other time." I said, nodding. She nodded and disappeared. "Let's wait for the others to come." I said, collapsing on my bed again. They nodded and soon I heard Grady yelled from downstairs.

"Sophie! Your friends are here!" he yelled.

"Let them up!" I yelled back. Soon, my friends were all up.

"What's up Moonlark!!" they said. I nodded and took out the package.

"Come closer." I said. They surrounded me and I unwrapped the package. The gem was a mirror shaped clear diamond.

"Oh! What is it?" Marella asked, her eyes shining brightly.

"It's Katolea. It purpose is as a looking glass. You can use it to see what people are feeling at the certain point or their true identity. Which is why we had to steal it." I said. They nodded, agreeing with it. If the Royals had this, they could easily find out our identities.

"Now what?" Dex asked, playing with Iggy.

"Let's dye Iggy's fur!" Marella said, grinning. They all looked at me expectantly.

"Go ahead." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Sophie? Can I talk to you?" Grady asked, poking his head into my room.

"Sure." I said, getting up. "I better see Iggy in a new color when I get back." I said to the others as I followed Grady. We sat down on the couch with Edaline and I asked, "What's up?"

"You've been hanging out with those elves only lately so we have been thinking." Grady said.

I arched my eyebrows and said, "About?"

"We walked to the King and Queen lately. We talked about how you and their son are both strong Telepaths. So we decided you can meet the royals tomorrow to become friends with Prince Fitz, Princess Biana, and their friend Keefe. Then you can meet new people AND get a Cognate." Edaline said. I groaned before realizing this could give away my hate toward the Royals.

"Sure!" I said, grinning. Edaline brightened up.

"Okay! We have to wake up early tomorrow so we can get to the Castle." Grady said, smiling.

"Okay! I'm going back to my friends!" I said, running back upstairs. As soon as I closed my door, I punched the wall, hoping Sandor didn't hear me.

"What were they talking about?" Linh asked.

"They want me to go meet the Royals tomorrow!" I said, punching the wall again.

"But you'll see Biana." Wylie said.

"I hate the Royals. Probably even more than you guys combined. You know why. Now i have to become FRIENDS for them." I said, groaning.

"Hopefully, Biana can help you keep your identity a secret." Tam said. I nodded.

"Hopefully." I said. After a bit of talking, we went to sleep. I couldn't sleep though. I didn't want to meet the Royals. I didn't want to become friends with them. Why me? After a while, I finally fell asleep, knowing I had to make sure that they didn't find out.
