Gavin finds me sitting on the floor, head in my hands and knees pulled up to my chest. Since Andy left, I've been crying. Losing a friend is never fun, but she has been cruel to me one too many times. Maybe we can repair the friendship one day, just not today.
"What's wrong, Skye?!"
The panic and concern in Gavin's tone stops my tears.
"Andy stopped by and we got into a fight."
He tucks his strong arms under me, lifting me up from the ground. He carries me to the couch, setting me down gingerly. He grabs a blanket, laying it on me.
"Do you want anything to drink? Eat?"
I shake my head. There is a pit in my stomach. Andy has every right to be mad at me. I crashed at her house for a while then announced I'm pregnant. After that, I disappeared and didn't bother informing her when I returned.
I can understand where her anger is coming from. Maybe a few days apart will let the dust settle? I spent a month away and all that happened is the dust storm grew larger, threatening to leave more wreckage in its wake.
"Why am I such a threat to the world around me?"
Gavin kneels beside the couch, leaning in and cupping my face with his warm hand.
"You aren't, babe. Conflicting personalities and interests are the only thing against you. Don't say you are a threat. That's completely false."
He presses a kiss to my forehead, stroking his thumb slowly across my cheek.
"Everything will be okay, Skye. Just give it time."
