The next day, my phone doesn’t receive a single message from Gavin. Not even a simple ‘Good Morning’. I try not to let it bother me, but if he’s acting this childish over the fact that I said no to moving in, screw him. It’s my life and I’ll live it how I want to. With all the time on my hands, I placed calls in to several locations seeking hard workers. My top choice for now is Grocery Guru. The starting wage is no less than $9 for a grocery stocker. Considering the fact minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, I’m ready to jump on this job. It’s the highest paying job I found today that doesn’t require a high school diploma. Using my communication skills, I set up a job interview for tomorrow at one o’clock.
The alarm on my phone goes off, pulling me from my thoughts. Since I don’t have a set schedule to work around, Andy asked if I could get Brayden off the bus for now. Normally she would be the one to do it, but she’s working towards a promotion and wants to show her boss how dedicated she is to her job. So for now, getting the little guy off the bus is my job. I don’t mind it either. He’s adorable and always has some funny, elaborate story to tell me about school.
I close the front door behind me and walk to the bus stop. The bus rounds the corner and the lights start flashing. The red stop sign comes out as the bus stops completely. The doors open and Brayden is the first to happily exit the bus.
“Aunt Skye!”
He throws his arms around me and I return the hug.
“Hi Brayden. Do you have any stories for me today?”
“Lots!”
I take his small hand in mine as we walk back to the house together.
