Mitch

I put up the final box of the night sighing in relief when Beau came out of the office, twirling keys in his hands.

"All done counting up the money. How far along are you?"

"I'm all done. Let me just check over everything and turn off the lights. I'll meet you outside."

Beau went outside the shop and I double checked everything I was supposed to do. Once I knew I was free for the evening, I clocked out and shut off all the lights. I grabbed my shoulder bag and threw it on before running out to meet Beau.

"Have you seen the news at all?" Beau said as he locked the doors.

"No, why?"

"That hitman has been at it again. One of the high drugs mobs was just found cleaned out, entire mob dead in a warehouse."

"Drugs are legal though." I shifted my bag as Beau and I started walking.

"Selling prescription drugs on the D.L aren't legal."

"Are the police any closer to getting him?"

"They got camera footage of him running from the scene but they didn't get his face. This was about two days ago."

"What do you think the police will do when they catch him?"

"I'm not sure. Possible death penalty."

"Hard pass!" I turned to Beau and walked sideways so I could talk to him face to face. "Do you know how many awful people that guy's killed! If anything, he'd be more respected than anyone in the police force."

"Dream if you want, murder is still murder, doesn't matter the person." Beau shrugged and we parted ways at a stoplight. I hurried home and threw my bag onto the couch then went to my bathroom. I took off my plain black eye patch and grabbed another black patch but this one had a red rose with a green leaf stitched into it by my own doing.

I set the patch aside and took a quick shower. Once I was clean and dried up, I went to my closet, grabbing a pair of leather pants that I got in good condition at a thrift shop. I pulled them on and looked at my rear in the mirror, butting it out and snickering to myself. I matched the pants with a dark blue lacey long sleeve. I admired myself in the mirror once more and ran my fingers through my short curly hair. I pulled the ends over my eye patch then fluffed it so the rose was still visible.

A knock at my door made me jump as I was putting on small accessories and was quick to stuff my feet into platform boots. I grabbed my phone and wallet, tucking the items into my back pockets before rushing to the door. I opened it and Beau was on the other side, an outfit similar to mine but his shirt was a white button-up, only half of the buttons done so his hairy chest was exposed.

"Shall we?" Beau asked and held out his elbow. I chuckled and linked my arm around his.

"We shall, " We shared another laugh and I locked my apartment door and  Beau lead me to an unfamiliar club farther than the one we usually go to. I stared at the blinking sign and let out a huff.

"Are you sure this place is legit?" I grabbed Beau's arm as he lead us inside and I shut my eyes as loud, bass-filled music erupted throughout my body. I reopened my eyes and saw what I had dreamed of. Men and women, some in drag, all dancing on one another. A few gay couples were throughout the room, dancing or sitting together, laughing and enjoying their time. There was an upper level of the club which drew my attention.

"See? Not so bad, " Beau said over the music.

"The inside is definitely not expected when you see the outside."
