''Look, Casey, you can't just work all the time and expect to survive without rest. I know grades matter to you, and I respect that, but you're being selfish,''Liam crossed his arms and stared me down.

''You're the one that's being selfish, Liam. You just want someone to talk to so you won't be so much of a loner,''I replied with a defiant glare as I looked back down at my computer screen and began typing again, this time at a more frantic speed. ''Now, get lost, I have a deadline to meet.''

''You're going to regret it, you know that? Here, I'll get you some coffee and we can talk for a while, okay? You need some time to rest too,''Liam continued gently.

''I hate you, you know that? You're so annoying sometimes, Liam, like honestly, get a life. I don't even know why I began friends with you in the first place!''I lashed out furiously, throwing the thickest textbook I had with me at that moment at my best friend.

Liam ducked in the nick of time. Wordlessly, he strolled over and picked the said book up before returning it to me with a strained smile. ''I suppose you'll need this.''

And as he walked away, I couldn't help but think about the hurt look in the brown eyes of his that I loved so much. But he was in the wrong, wasn't he?

''I'm sorry, Casey, but-''

''Get out of my way, please, I have two more chapters to cover!''I try to control my irritation and shoved the boy that had approached me away.

The boy, whom I recognized as Liam's friend, Aaron, glared at me. ''This is important.''

Those three words were enough to convince me to listen. After all, Aaron and I had never exchanged a single word throughout the whole time we knew each other, so this was, for sure, what Aaron had described it, important. Sighing, I stopped in my tracks and asked impatiently ,''What is it, then?''

''Casey...Liam's dead.''

*

Those three words chilled me more than anything had ever done in my entire life. Liam? Liam, who had been my best friend since we were young? Liam, the kindest person I had ever met? Liam, the one...the one I had threw a textbook at, a few hours before his death?

''No, it can't be,''I whispered. All thoughts of studying had disappeared, and all I wanted to know was whether or not this whole thing was a joke. It couldn't be.

''He was holding this,''Aaron continued, shoving two cups of coffee and a note into my hand roughly, pointedly staring me down. ''I'm sure you will understand, after all, he died a while after he met you, didn't he?''

''B-But, how did he...die?''the words sounded dry in my mouth as I set the items on the table next to me shakily.

''A car knocked him over when he was crossing the street.''

''He died instantly?''I managed to get out.

''Well, according to everyone else, he did,''Aaron replied. He glared at me. ''Stop avoiding the truth, Williams. The real reason he died. It was your fault, wasn't it?''

I looked down at the two cups of coffee, and folded up the note wordlessly. Coffee. He'd asked me to go and drink a cup of coffee and wind down with him earlier. But I didn't.

And now, I never could.

Hello! Hope you enjoyed this rather long piece of writing! I'm so sorry for not updating yesterday but I went out the whole afternoon and watched a movie so there really wasn't time :(

Note: Should I do a continuation of what the note says? I'm a bit doubtful about it but this feels rather incomplete. What do you think? (Also, this chapter is unedited so I'm also sorry for the errors I could have made.)

Thanks so much to  theserenexaini,  potterheadivergentResurgence67HijabiQueen786Wooden_barbie, and  athena91522 for voting and commenting! :)
