Tris pov:

I wake up to the the song 'Gold' by Britt Nicole. Instead of turning it off I listen to it as I get ready. I try to believe what the lyrics are saying even though I don't feel gold.

I put on black see through tights with a black mini-skirt over them. For a shirt I wear a black ripped crop top that says
' don't talk to me'

I apply black eyeliner and mascara to my eyes and add a dramatic smokey eye. I put concealer over the scars on my wrist.

Don't be ashamed to wear your crown
You're a king, you're a queen inside and out.

Crown... Maybe my beanie will be my crown. I think to myself as I put my black beanie on over my wavy shoulder- length blonde hair.

I pop in my contacts and look in the mirror. ' I guess I look okay' I think to myself. I grab an apple off the counter as I grab my backpack and walk out.

I jump in my black truck. I know what your thinking. ' if she's rich why doesn't she have a nice car?' Well I do, but I don't want people to know who I am. If they know my parents are rich they will only like me because I'm rich.

I walk into the school and get my schedule. I go to my locker which is #46 and go to homeroom. I walk in and sit down towards the back of the class.
Keep your head down Tris.

I see a big group of kids walk in the room laughing having a good time, when a girl with mocha skin sees me alone and leaves her friends and comes and sits in the seat next to me.

Great. Note the sarcasm.

" Hey! I'm Christina! I haven't seen you around here. Are you new?" She asks.

"Uhh- um ya I'm new... I'm Tris." I decided to use the nickname that Caleb gave to me the night of his death.

" Tris, you know, you seem pretty cool! You you should sit with us at lunch today!" I just nod.

"Ummm, so let me tell you about Tori, our homeroom teacher! She is really awesome, she's kind of like a kid at heart. She's not like the grumpy old teachers, she's fun!" I just nod.

"You don't talk much do you?" She asks. I shake my head.

"Don't worry, the group will help you with that!" She says.

"Christina! You know I am not very strict, but you have been talking all throughout my class so switch places with Four."

She sighs and switches seats with the boy in front of her who is called Four.

I feel a light tap on my shoulder and turn to see Four passing me a note. I take it from him and read it.

What's your phone number for future reference? -C

214-466-4646-T

I hand it back to Four to give to Christina.

After a few seconds he hands me another note that says

Girl! Four has been staring at you all class with goo goo eyes! He doesn't do that with anyone!!! EEEKKK!
Four totes likes you!- C

Oh please! He is not... If anything it's because we keep passing notes-T

"Tris! Christina! I am not one of those annoying teachers who just give out detentions so Tris, why don't you read the notes out loud." She says smirking.
So much for keeping my head down.

I read the notes as the whole class including Tori laughs. I see Four blushing wildly.

The bell rings and when I am about to leave, Four grabs my wrist. " listen, I'm sorry-" I cut him off laughing and say
" Four it's okay really! We just met! I know you don't like me." He sighs and smiles. We walk out of the classroom together.
