The next day, after I had gotten home from the hospital, the doorbell rang. Mom and dad were at work, and I had to stay home from school again.

I Picked up my crutches, and headed towards the door.

I was in utter shock at who stood outside of the door.
Haven.

I was just about to close the door in her face , when she stopped me.

"Kay, please just hear me out." she pleaded.

I sighed. "Fine. You have five minutes, I have to go back and lie down." I said as I leaned against the door frame.

"Kaleigh this is important. Can I please come inside?" she asked, hopefully.

I stared at her for a moment, debating, on whether or not I should.

I finally decided on letting her come in.

"Ten minutes Haven." I say as I  stepped aside to let her through.

I led her into the den and sat down on the couch across from her.

"Okay, let me just start off by saying, I'm so sorry Kay.I didn't mean what I said in class that day." Haven started and I rolled my eyes. "Is that all?" I asked, upset that she even had the audacity to show up at here.

"Kaleigh, please let me finish." she pleaded and I could see the pain in her eyes. I suddenly grew concerned.

"What's wrong Haven?" I asked her, studying her carefully.

"Its Drew." she said barely above a whisper.

***********

I felt as if I had completely lost my mind. I had to take in everything that Haven had just told me.
Drew was abusing her.

My best friend. I couldn't help but feel as if it were somehow my fault. Maybe I could have stopped him. Maybe there was something I could have done.

"Haven, I'm so sorry this has happened to you." I said, tears ready to fall at any given second.

"Its not your fault Kay. But why didn't you tell me that Drew was abusive?" she asked.

I was speechless. I didn't know what I could say or do.

Drew had told Haven about us. He was the one who made Haven say such things about me. He was trying to turn her against me. He was trying to turn everyone against me.

It was his whole plan to get me to come back to him. He wanted to make sure I had no one left. I was broken out of my thoughts as Haven suddenly jumped up from her seat.

"I've got to go Kay! He's on his way to my house! If he finds out I'm here or that I talked to you...." she drifted off in a low whisper.

"I'm so sorry this is happening Haven." I said, and with my best effort, made my way over to her and hugged her.

She rushed out of the door soon after that.

I felt so helpless now.Without Austin...

My thoughts were drowned out by the sound of the doorbell.

I realized I was still standing in the middle of the floor, and turned around towards the door.

"Kaleigh!" Austin exclaimed as he pulled me into a huge hug.

"I'm so-"

"Don't say anything Austin. I'm sorry about what I said. All that matters is that you're here with me." I stated as I let the tears fall freely down my cheeks.

"Kaleigh, I'm never leaving your side again." said Austin as he pulled back and looked into my eyes.

*********

That night, me and Austin talked on the phone. I told him all about Haven and all about Drew's little plan. I told him how Drew was using Haven to get to me.

I told him everything.

We only talked for a few hours before I had to get some rest. After all, tomorrow was going to be my first day back in school.

I woke up the next morning and started my usual routine.

After I showered, I decided on wearing a pink low-cut top, with dark fitted jeans , and topped it off with my pink sandals.

I had perfectly straightened my blonde hair, and I decided on skipping the make-up for the day.

My rib cage still hurt, but not as much.

As for my ankle, by doctors gave me a boot to wear so that I wouldn't have to use my crutches at school.

After saying my goodbyes to my parents, I made my way outside and to my front yard.

Austin sat there waiting for me in his car.

"Good morning, beautiful." he greeted me, as he met me halfway up the sidewalk, and kissed me on my cheek.

After helping me into the car, Austin soon started driving, keeping his eyes locked on the road.

"Thanks for picking me up this morning Austin." I say as I grabbed his free hand in mines.

He tightened the grip of our hands as he smiled.

"Anything for my girl."

When we pulled up in front of the school, Austin rushed out of the car to come to my side and help me out.

As we made our way up the steps, I noticed Avery and Kaci had made their way over to us.

Avery had walked up to us with her usual evil grin on her face.

"Aw, look who's back at school. And look Kaci, her boyfriend is helping her into the building." she said in a mocking tone.

"Good to see you're back Kaleigh." said Kaci ignoring Avery's remarks.

"Thanks Kaci. And as for you Avery, I have better things to do with my time than waste it on you." I said with confidence as I tried to push past her.

"Apparently your boyfriend has better things to do with his time than to waste it on you." She said with a smirk on her face.

"What is she talking about Austin?" I ask as I looked up at him.

"Nothing." he said blankly as he eyed Avery.

"Oh please Austin. That wasn't what you were saying the other night." said a smirking Avery as she walked away, with Kaci behind her with guilt in her eyes.

"Austin?" I ask, feeling myself ready to cry.

"Kaleigh, I'm so sorry." Was all he said, or all I heard, because I took that as my opportunity to walk-well limp away from him.

I guess I wasn't that special after all.
