As Jay and Audrey walked on the open air deck, the young woman curious about the life of a person of lower-class.

"Tell me about yourself," Audrey said to Jay.

"I am on the Titanic to see my old home." He told her. "I haven't seen it in over three years. I grew up in America, outside of the city of Chicago."

"What was your childhood like?"

"My family and I grew up poor, sometimes having little food to eat."

"Why did you leave?"

Jay looked down, avoiding eye contact. "My parents were killed. I was almost 10 years old."

"I'm sorry," The woman said in sadness.

"I was there when it happened,"

**Flashback, 1901**
"A few days before my 10th birthday, we had a small party. We lived at the edge of the village. My parents scraped up as much money over the year so they could to get me the most presents I've ever gotten."

A 9-year-old boy waited patiently at the table, working on a wooden carving for his mother and father. His parents rushed in through the door, the wind and snow from the outside blowing in.

"We decided to give you your birthday present a bit early,"

Young Jay grinned as his parent placed a small present wrapped in old newspapers. As he unwrapped it, he saw two things. He saw his father's pocket-watch and a knitted red hat.

"Your grandfather gave me that watch when I was his age," Jay's father told him with a bright smile. "and his father gave it to him. It's been in the family for generations. Now I give it to you, my son."

"I made you this," His mother said while placing the hat on Jay's small head. It covered his eyes, making the young child giggle. "It may be a bit big on you, but you'll grow into it."

"We also got you this," His father reached into his pocket and pulled out a leather bracelet. Jay smiled as he examined it and saw a snake engraved on it.

"I love them!" He exclaimed. He wrapped the bracelet around his wrist and placed the watch, his carving, and pocket knife carefully in his secret pocket in his jacket, closing it with a zipper.

"Jay," His father said, getting his attention. "We love you, and you know that. We always did, always have and always will."

"I knew that something was wrong, but I didn't want to believe it. I remember that day like it was yesterday,"

The boy saw his mother had tears in her eye's. He looked at his father, who tried to show bravery to his son.

A moment later, they heard a loud banging on the door. His father looked outside, his eyes filled with shock. His father went to his son, giving him a tight hug and kissed him on the forehead.

"I love you. Remember that," he whispered. His father walked outside, while his mother hugged him tightly.

"I love you too, Papa," Jay said to him.

"In case anything happens, I want you to run away,"

"I don't understand,"

"Just leave this place and stay safe."

"I love you, my little snake boy," His mother said tearfully while stroking his face.

"I love you too, Mama," His parents gave him one last hug, while Jay clenched onto them tightly, not ready to let go. The couple walked to then walked to the door, and took one last look at their son. They gave him a weak smile and walked out the door.
