Chapter 4

Jeisen Jee POV

Si Master Salvi. Hmm.

Paano ba makakalusot dito ngayon?

Such a wrong timing.

"Ano nga po 'yon uli?"

"Don't you know that texting and not listening while someone is talking is rude?"

"Depende," sagot ko. "So... I guess I don't know that it is rude, Master Salvi?"

"You are sarcastic," Kung kanina seryoso ito. Ngayon naman mas sumeryoso pa ito. "I don't like your attitude. You don't have manners."

"I am just doing you a favor, master," muling sagot ko. "You asked me. Sumagot lang ako."

"Is this how you treat other people?" may diin na tanong niya. "Is this how you talk to me?"

"Depende sa taong kaharap ko, master."

"Anong ibig mong sabn?"

"Depende kong kasagot-sagot ba ang taong kaharap ko o hindi. You know where to choose. The first or the latter."

Nagsmirk ito at tiningnan niya ako mula ulo hanggang paa. Hindi naman ito mapanuri but I assume he is up for a challenge.

"I always have this rule whenever I visit this school," sabi niya. "That is, you have to answer every question that I am 'bout to ask. What matters to me is you know how to answer it. It depends whether it is your opinion or facts, but I would gladly wanna hear from you about the word "rights". Since this is what I am telling to everyone awhile ago. Can you say something about it? I just wanna know your thoughts young lady."

Her we go again with the 'rights'.

I maintained my poker face. I know I'm cold and misinterpreted by my acts but I'm just being me.

"Lo seinto maestro," nilagay ko ang kanang kamay ko sa may bandang puso at yumuko ng bahagya, "I would like to ask an apology if you find me rude while you are talking in front of us," pag-uumpisa 'ko. "It's not my intention to insult or interrupt of whatever we have here right now."

"And talking about rights? For me, a right is also a freedom, a freedom to do or not to do something. But to tell you honestly, ladies and gentlemen the rights that we have is actually not absolute even if we are living in a democratic country. If you'll read the book of our fundamental law and that is the Philippine Constitution written under Article 3, the Bill of rights, that no person has the absolute right or complete freedom to do as he pleases, sure, that our freedom is also a privilege with so much gusto. However, having a democratic country, is a two way road at the same time, that is, we must respect the freedom of others too."

I guess they are really listening.

"What I did awhile ago is also a right, my right as individual, my right as a student in this university and my right not to listen or to follow rules."
