Left Without a Choice

AJ woke with a dull headache,

Still confused with his current state.

He opened his eyes to a moonlit sky,

Saw men asleep near a dying fire.

He then remembered what happened,

Of Burt Carson, and how he was taken.

He tried moving, but his limbs were tied,

He must escape, he had to try.

He swung his hands under his feet,

Began untying the knots quietly.

He freed his legs, then looked around,

When all was calm, he began to stand.

But a voice spoke from the shadows,

"You really think I'd leave you alone?

Try runnin', son, go on ahead.

I'll make that girl of yours pay for you instead."

The mention of Loren stopped AJ on his tracks,

"Touch one hair on her, Carson, you'll run out of luck.

I'll go with you, and settle my account,

But until then, stay away from that town."

Carson nodded, "Sounds good to me.

We'll do it like before, if you'll agree."

"No, we won't." The baker said.

"I'm never fighting for you again.

I'll work for the company, pay what's due,

Take a cut from my wages for what I owe you."

The old man laughed.

"I'm afraid that's not up for negotiation.

When you lost that bout with the Irish,

I lost a fortune.

There is no choice, you're fighting for me.

And this time around, make sure you win.

And to tell you the truth, son,

I say you looked happy in that town.

So don't say no, don't disagree,

'Cause if you do, your girl, that town,

I'll burn 'em all with glee."
