An Unpleasant Surprise

Zoe's POV:

Twang

Dread. That's the feeling I was trying to push away as I shot arrows at a target that Phoenix made me.

The feeling was the only thing I could think about as I mindlessly fired arrows, but I couldn't figure out what was causing this feeling. That is, until I felt two immortals flash in behind me. I turned around and noticed a man with swirling galaxies for eyes wearing a suit and tie looking at me as a sad smile spread across his face. Next to him was a girl with shoulder length strawberry blonde hair and amber colored eyes. The girl looked me over as if I were some insignificant mortal, I rolled my eyes as I bowed my head slightly to the man.

"Lord Chaos" I say respectfully but as the words leave my mouth I feel the sensation of dread increase

"Hello Zoe, is Artemis around? I have news to convey to her" Chaos says carefully and I see a hint of smugness in the girl's eyes

"Last I heard she was on Olympus, what information do you want to share with her? I will be able to relay the message if you wish" I say calmly but Chaos shakes his head

"The meeting on Olympus has ended, she should be here... now" Chaos says just as Artemis flashes into view next to me

By this point, I was overwhelmed by dread but I forced the feeling down as the girl bowed to Artemis. Artemis waved the girl's attempt off as she smiled at Chaos.

"Chaos, what brings you here?" Artemis asked and once again Chaos smiled sadly

"Artemis, with the threat of Kronos rising and monsters attacking with more strategically" Chaos started and Artemis' smile dropped "I have decided to assign you an, initiate guardian who will be your full Guardian after the war with Kronos. This is Amber, she is your new guardian, she has been training for millennia as a replacement for your former Guardian Perseus" Chaos said solemnly

"Percy" Artemis and I said at once

"And no, I have told you Chaos, I will not replace him" Artemis said with an edge to her voice

"I am sorry Artemis, this is final" Chaos said with finality but I could see the regret in his eyes "Besides, Amber will be a much better guardian, she has trained for longer than any of the other trainees, and she is female"

"Yeah, and I won't be killed by a simple spear to the chest like my weakling predecessor" Amber said arrogantly expecting Artemis to like her

However, Artemis glared at Chaos, and I saw tears running down her cheeks.

"You just want me to move on, to forget everything! Well guess what! I won't! I will never move on!" Artemis shouted venomously at Chaos "She is not my guardian, I refuse to acknowledge it! Come on Zoe, let's go." She said as she gently took my arm and we flashed away to the lake where the hunt played Bumper Percy

I led a now crying Artemis over to where Percy sat that one day and we sat down. I pulled Artemis into a hug and rubbed her back gently.

"I can't believe him! Why would he do this to me!" Artemis wailed and I was struggling to hold my tears in as well

I looked at the moon and noticed it was a crimson red. Confusion overtook me, it wasn't Percy's birthday yet the blood moon was out. Then I looked at Artemis and saw that she was still crying into my hunter's blouse.

"The blood moon is out because it's a reminder that Percy will always be my guardian" Artemis said softly though sobs

"He always will be, that Amber chick will never surpass him" I say and I keep hugging Artemis
