Roommates

Chapter 6

"Wow, this place looks so cool," I said and looked around as we walked inside.

"Yeah, it is pretty cool." He said. "See what I did there. It is cool as in cold because the ice cream is cold." He said. I just looked at him weirdly.

"Just stop. If you had to explain your joke it clearly wasn't funny." I laughed and turned my attention to the menu hanging from the ceiling.

"Hello welcome to Dairy World what would you like?" The worker asked looking at me and then over at Alex.

"Um, I'll have a large cone of vanilla with rainbow sprinkles please." She nodded and turned to Alex.

"Oh, I'll have a medium chocolate cone with a cherry please." The worker nodded as he put the order in the computer.

"Ok, your total will be $6.50". I saw Alex taking out his wallet.

"Let me pay," I pulled out money from my wallet. He looked over at me and shook his head. "Why not?"

"Because I said so."

"But-"

"No, I'm paying." He took out a ten and handed it to the worker. Before the worker could take it I snatched it out of his hand.

"Lana!?"

"Hey, it's what I had to do," I said and smiled. I handed my ten-dollar bill to the worker. "There." I handed Alex back his ten-dollar bill and shoved it into his front pocket.

"I get the next bill then." The worker laughed then went to the back to get our orders.

"Who said there will be a next time?"

"Oh of course there will be angel." I scrunch my nose up in disgust."

"I hate that name."

"Well deal with it." Before I could complain more, the worker came back to the counter with two ice creams in his hand.

"Here you go, guys. By the way, you make a great couple." He said.

"Oh I am sorry but we-"

"Thank you." Alex interrupted and then led us to a table in the back.

"Why does everyone think we are a couple? I mean seriously." I said and licked my ice cream.

"I don't know but I think we would be pretty cute together. Not saying we should be together. I am just sayin-"

"I know what you mean Alex." I said and licked my ice cream.

"So where to after this?" He asked. I shrugged.

"I don't know, we could just go back?" I asked.

"Good I was taking you back anyway. I have a date tonight" He said and I laughed.

"You? A date?" I took one last bite of my ice cream cone and then I was done. Alex took his last bite and we both got up to go. 

"Yes, a date. I mean have you seen me. Look at me." He used his hand to motion to himself. I gave him the satisfaction of seeing my eyes travel up and down his body.

"Ugly." He laughed as well walked back to the car. The car ride was almost silent some small talk here and there, nothing too grand.
