'NO!' I screamed.

It was a late summer. My childhood friend Alice had come over to our house for a barbecue. We had already had the barbecue so we were currently sitting in a inflated paddling pool with my blue whale, Tom. I got him for Christmas last year and he meant the world to me. I know he is only a toy, but as a eight year old, I took my blue whale safety very seriously.

Since we had gotten a 99 cone, I had given Tom to Alice so I could finish mine since she was already done. I gave Alice my blue whale to take care of, not shove it underneath the water.

'Alice! you must be careful' i said, trying to grab him off her while holding my ice cream up straight.

Alice, of course, somehow was more stronger, faster and sneakier than me.

'Wait' she said giggling as if it was a joke. 'Tom is swimming away'

'No he's not' i said now panicking to get him back, thinking that she was going to throw Tom into a bush as some kind of sick joke.

'No not forever. He told me he wants for go for a swim down in the cool blue ocean far out from the beach to meet with some of his friends' Alice said making Tom swim.

'Oh' I said, nodding but frowning a little and also a little confused because i thought i knew all his friends by now. Me. Maybe Alice. Mom. Santa. The kitchen sink.

'Who is he meeting?'

'His friend Jerry and Luke.. and his lady friend Lily.' She put her golden blonde hair, which reflected off the sun, on top of Tom to make him look like a girl. Her blue eyes were glowing with imagination . I always thought her long hair had something to do with her craziness. 'He said that when he comes back, he'll bring you a beautiful pink shell as a present for you'

I stared at Tom and Alice in disbelief. Then Alice splashed me with the water , and started laughing.. and i joined in, splashing everywhere. I did always like Alice's made up stories, especially when i knew it was made up. I especially love her laugh and smile. Somehow Alice always makes everyone smile, even at the saddest time when you thought there was no hope. Alice always made the world seem brighter...
