He said,
Take me down low
Where the fish swim with the tide
And he told me the glass could fall,
It'll go real smooth if I'd like.

Sometimes it feels as though
Death can say no.
We spin the table,
And he looks across at me,
Throwing daggers
That catch the highs
With powder,
The edges need me to need you.
Cards fray and fall,
So that all I see is you rolling back into your skull,
And god, don't tell me I won the game.
The table still spins,
But this room got eery-
The light melts my waters,
And you're turning blue.
Fuck.

He took me to the vacancy,
And touched me with the truth,
So that I'm painted like a walking tombstone.
The bats flew from the caves
And made their way out of my mouth,
Scratching my bottom lip so it's bloody,
And after all of that honesty,
I asked for a lighter
To set my internal organs on fire.
You threw one to me, in a shade of you,
And told me this is your everyday.
I laughed,
As we drifted around the turn,
Light refracting from a heavy transport.
My vision went black and white that day
And it never did change.

I walk on feet of seaweed
Because a day with you
Look around, all I do is see weed,
These clouds are heaven sent,
Because you fall in love with Death,
And you're all the things heaven bent,
No going back to a picket fence,
If you had common sense,
You wouldn't be pickin this,
Wasted youth and watered down dreams,
What a mistake for the devil
To chase something like me.

He said,
Take me down low
Where the fish swim with the tide
And he told me the glass could fall,
It'll go real smooth if I'd like.

There is too much life within me,
That I couldn't cut it off.
No noose could suffocate it,
And I'm afraid if I tried,
It'd never be enough.
No amount of pills,
No depth of scar tissue,
No intensity of an accident,
No barrel of a gun
Could kill what it's taken a thousand people to build.
So spill the blood,
Slice the vein,
Here's the truth-
I won't say it again.

The hottest layers are at the top,
Where the people wade,
Where the sand sticks,
Just enough to let you know it's real.
The depth is where it gets dark enough to swallow people,
Drown them and tangle the bones,
Scrape the teeth and the fingernails
Across the surface of rock bottom
Just for the noise of it.
The creatures lurk,
They've got eyes like mine,
And they're fucking ruthless.
But you don't get sunburnt with bricks in your pocket, do you?
There's no difference between blood and water down there,
You'll blend in just fine.
