Prologue

"Ryan," I called after my dear cousin as I followed him out from his office.

"I said no, and that's final." He said sternly, not bothering to stop walking or turn around.

I stubbornly stomped my feet, "You can either give me your blessing or I can go rouge." I threaten making him growl loudly. It didn't bother me because I knew he wouldn't hurt me he was just angry because I had threatened him and boy did Alpha's hate to be threatened. Quickly enough he stood in front of me, "Submit!" He growled and I had no other choice but to do just that.

I bared my neck at him, "Sorry Alpha." I hated when he used his Alpha voice on me but it needed to be done if I wanted to show him how serious I was about doing this.

"Hey, what's going on?" My uncle Paul the previous Alpha asked as he emerged from down the stairs.

"Uncle, can you please talk to your son?" I begged, giving him my best puppy dog face that I had used many times and each time that I did things always ruled in my favor.

"Dad, she wants to go on a yearlong vacation, alone. Do you know how dangerous it can be for an unmated she-wolf to be out there alone?" Ryan argued. Even though Ryan was technically the Alpha he still would ask Uncle Paul for his advice on certain things.

"He's right you know." Uncle Paul eyes shifted to mine.

"I don't need a mate," I growled. "I twenty-one I don't need somebody looking after me; I'm a strong she-wolf."

You'll be surprised about how much sexist things went on in packs. If a man wolf had come to them and asked them the exact same thing that would have immediately agree but since I am a women things are all of a sudden different. I just expected to just sit around until my mate comes and sweeps me off my feet. Like no, there are so many other things I want to do besides find my mate and start popping out his kids.

"Ellie." My uncle looked towards me apologetically. I knew that he was leaning to agree with Ryan and if that was to happen there was no way that Ryan would let me leave.

But when all luck falls.

"Please." I pouted. "I promise I won't get into any trouble."

"She got you there, good luck." He said turning around to leave.

"Where are you going?" Ryan yelled after his father.

"Your mother and I are going to the lake for a picnic. See ya'." He waved and headed in the direction of the kitchen.

He turned back to me, "Pretty please with a cherry on top." I cupped my hands under my chin.

"What exactly are you going to be doing on this ...vacation?" He raised his eyebrow.

"Traveling, gaining independence, exploring things other than these very walls. I've spent my whole entire life here and I just want some freedom and new experiences. I want to get away and live a little."

It was just a few short weeks ago when I found myself lying in bed scrolling through Pinterest and saw that there were so many things that I wanted to do but have yet to experience. I wanted to ski in Alaska, sightsee in New York, hike in Colorado (Okay I lying about this part, hiking=sweating and I rather not).

He paused with a sigh, "Fine, but there will be some rules."

"Rules," I smiled, "I can deal with rules."
