Something finally sparked an emotion in me. One I've worked so hard not to ever feel.
Fear.
Of anything.
I had been driving at the speed limit but still too fast for the insane downpour. All I thought about was getting home and taking a bath.
I didn't expect someone to be standing in the middle of the fucking road, arms outstretched.
I saw him too late.
And now as I stand over him in the pouring rain, almost entirely sure he's dead, I want to rewind the day back to the beginning.
I fall on my knees involuntarily and press my index and middle finger to the pulse in his neck.
I suck my breath in as a teardrop falls down my face.
He's alive.
