"Oh look the food is here!" I pipe trying to lighten up the mood.

However it didn't work.

We ate in uncomfortable silence.

"Slade what was that?" I ask.

"What was what?" he questions leaning against his bike with his arms crossed.

"You were being really rude to her" I state.

"Hey it isn't my fault she's a hypocrite" he defends.

I gasp.

"I can't believe you" I shake my head.

"Look I know she's not little to handle, but I just asked for one afternoon. She's made mistakes, a lot of them. But that doesn't mean you should judge her for them" I inform.

"I don't feel bad for what I said. That's what I believe" he shrugs.

"And what exactly is that Slade?" I ask.

"She has this whole act going on. She acts innocent, but she is rotten inside. Once you turn rotten there's no going back Grace. Ever" he says firmly.

"There's something called hope. And I have hope she has changed and is changing for the better" I reply back.

"Ok. I respect your decision. But I don't believe in hope" he states.

I frown.

How can someone not believe in hope?

"Well what about you?!" I blurt anger starting in the pit of my stomach.

Since Claire was becoming much closer to me the urge of defending her in situations like these grew.

He raises a brow.

"What about me?" he questions.

"You weren't exactly a saint before" I remind.

"I'm not a saint point blank" he rephrases.

"But you were supposedly worse before" I protest.

"And now.....you're not" I inform.

"And why is that Slade?" I question.

He stays silent.

"Because you've changed" I answer my own question.

"So what makes you any different from Claire?" I ask proudly.

"Claire was, is, and always will be a bully. Wanna know why? Because even if she doesn't admit it she still thinks she is higher up than everyone else in this world. She still thinks she is higher than you" he retorts.

"I on the other hand-", "you've done plenty of bad things worst than Claire. So how can you possibly win in this argument?" I cut.

"Bad things that you've only heard of" he states.

"Well are they true?" I question.

He shrugs.

"I don't really pay attention to rumors" he informs.

"They aren't rumors if it's not told to you by a teenager who only cares about gossip and popularity" I inform.

"So I'm guessing Mr.Altman talks crap about me too" he replies.

"It's not crap. He has proof of what he says" I inform.

"Grace the man hates me" Slade reminds.

"He does not. He wants what is best for you" I inform.

Slade snorts.

"He wants what is best for the school" he rephrases.
