Happy Summer Solstice and Happy Father's Day, too!!!

Sunday, June 21, 2015: The Summer Solstice arrives as the Sun enters Cancer at 12:38 pm EDT. Today is the longest day of the year and the beginning of Summer (in the northern hemisphere). It's also a turning point that ushers in the energies of family, nurturing, security and home. Solstice literally means "sun stands still" and for 3 days the sun will do just that... not move higher or lower in the sky... giving you time to reorient yourself to the turning of the season.

The equinoxes and solstices (from an astrological point of view) are the first days of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter and correspond with the first day (or first degree) of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. These four signs are called cardinal signs. Cardinal signs initiate. They come up with the idea and put it into action, which leads to necessary change. "Cardinal" suggests (from the Latin root of the word), "that on which something turns or depends." So the first day/degree of a Cardinal sign is a turning point. Related Article...

If you encounter obstacles or slowdowns... stay positive, apply focus and discipline and deal with any frustrations or discomforts you experience by calling on the power of love.

Enjoy the following quote which inverts the common understanding of "anger' and peels off the superficial to reveal a deeper almost counter intuitive meaning.

Today's Quote

"ANGER is the deepest form of compassion, for another, for the world, for the self, for a life, for the body, for a family and for all our ideals, all vulnerable and all, possibly about to be hurt. Stripped of physical imprisonment and violent reaction, anger is the purest form of care, the internal living flame of anger always illuminates what we belong to, what we wish to protect and what we are willing to hazard ourselves for. What we usually call anger is only what is left of its essence when we are overwhelmed by its accompanying vulnerability, when it reaches the lost surface of our mind or our body's incapacity to hold it, or when it touches the limits of our understanding. What we name as anger is actually only the incoherent physical incapacity to sustain this deep form of care in our outer daily life; the unwillingness to be large enough and generous enough to hold what we love helplessly in our bodies or our mind with the clarity and breadth of our whole being." ~ David Whyte, Consolations
