I looked over at Evie as we pulled up in my grandma's yard. We moved into our new house today and got settled in before coming here. My grandma walked outside

Yvette- oh my god. Silas is that you and Rai- Rai?

I smiled.

Silas - hey grandma. These are my two daughters Salem and Solana and this is my wife Geneviève.

Yvette - Geneviève, it's very nice to meet you

Evie - it's nice to meet you too. Mrs. Jackson.

Yvette - we're family now. You can call me grandma.

She led us in the house.

Earl - I see you boy. That boy got a family now

Silas - hey pop. This is my wife Geneviève and daughters Salem and Solana

My grandpa looked at Sy'Rai

Earl - you've gotten so big , Rai - Rai.

Sy'Rai - I'm not a baby anymore

Earl - It's really been nine years since your father passed.

Silas - yes

Earl - well I know he would be proud of Silas. You have this beautiful family and Sy'Rai is doing great . How long are y'all staying

Silas - we just moved here.

Earl - had to get out of Louisiana.

Silas - yeah

Earl - how's your mama? Is she back yet?

Silas - man do I have a story for you.

I sat in the kitchen with Silas's aunts and grandma. They're very different from my own family.

Sandra - Evie where are your parents?

Evie - my mom died when I was 12 and my dad stays in New Orleans with my brother and his wife.

Natalie - are you from New Orleans

Evie- I'm actually from California, I moved to New Orleans when I was 17 after I went to rehab.

Yvette - rehab?

Evie - I was a drug addict. Got hooked on drugs after my mom died. I was just doing a lot of stuff I shouldn't have been doing. Then my dad decided we would move in with my brother, so we packed up and moved because he thought I needed to change of scenery to change. On my first day of school I met Silas and that was it.

Yvette - he told me y'all didn't date until you got pregnant with Salem

Evie - we were still friends up until I got pregnant. I got pregnant with her , a month after we met. At that time I was still going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings and him and Sy'Rai would go with me every Saturday and to those meetings

Silas walked in the kitchen with Solana.

Silas - can you give me a bottle.

Evie - I can feed her

Silas - no. I got it

Silas sat beside me and Sol reached for me.

Sandra - are y'all having anymore kids?

Evie - one more then we're done. I really want a boy

Silas - I'm fine with my two girls

Yvette - I can't believe little Simon has a family now.
