Silas Montgomery

I woke up to Salem crying. I sat up rubbing my eyes. Evie turned on the light and sat up.

Silas - I got her. Go back to bed

We're staying at Evie's old house before they moved. Luckily her dad rents the house out to people to make money.

I went and got her a bottle.

Salem fussed for a bit for then took the bottle.

I kissed her cheek. She put the bottle down and smiled at me.

Salem - dada?

I looked at Evie shocked.

Silas - what you say Angel

She smiled.

Salem - dada.

Evie - you supposed to say mama

She looked at Evie and scrunched her nose up at her.

Evie - say mama girl

Silas - you don't have to say mama

Evie - shut up Si

Silas - don't be hurt. We can have another one so they say mama first.

Salem - dada

Silas - yes baby

Salem sat up and smiled at Evie

Salem babbled to Evie.

Silas - mommy is mad at you because you won't say her name.

I rocked Salem to sleep and Evie laid up under me.

Silas - you jealous baby?

Evie - no.

I rubbed her back.

I laid Salem down beside us and Evie climbed on top of me.

Silas - you okay?

Evie - I don't know how to feel after seeing my uncle

Silas - you don't have to talk.

Evie - I'm so glad we met. I wish it was under different circumstances.

Silas - I don't. I feel like it wouldn't be the same.

She kissed me.

2 AM

I went down the hall to see Scott sitting at the kitchen counter.

Silas - hey .

Scott - how do you do it?

Silas - do what?

Scott - balance Evie and a baby.

Silas - nigga Liv hasn't had the baby yet

Scott - I know

Silas - I mean for me and Evie. It wasn't easy. We're were getting to know each other while she was pregnant . We had a few hiccups but we communicate properly. A baby changes a lot of things but, it should make your relationship stronger if the love and respect is already there and established.

Scott - you love my sister

Silas -  yeah I love her.

Scott - I imagine it's tough dealing with her

Silas - it is but you just gotta be patient with her. She likes to overthink and get in her own head.

Scott - I need to thank you for helping her out

Silas - it's nothing.

Scott - I really appreciate it.

I smiled. Evie came down the hall with Salem.

Silas - baby girl you supposed to be asleep.

She laughed.

Evie - she was calling for you

Salem - dada

Scott - Evie are you mad she won't say your name.

Evie - no

Silas - yes she is

I woke up to Salem looking in my face. I sat up and Evie was still sleeping.

I picked up Salem up and went down the hall to the kitchen.

Silas - since everybody is sleeping still, we're gonna make breakfast.

I woke up to my dad shaking me.

Michael - Evie get up and brush your teeth. Silas made breakfast

Evie - I'm not hungry

Silas - yes you are. I heard your stomach growling when I got up.

Michael - Silas I got this.

He walked out. My dad sat on my bed.

Michael - you thinking about your mama?

I nodded.

Michael - I figured you were.   I miss her everyday too.

Evie - I'm glad you're still here but it sucks because she won't get to know any of her grandmas or Silas's dad.

Michael - Si's mom is dead?

Evie - she's an addict.

Michael -  I talk to Salem about your  mom and she just smiled and laughs. It's like she knows who I'm talking about. 

Evie - I do the same thing and I believe she knows who mom is.

Michael - you need to eat. Even if it's only a little bit of food. I get today is tough on you and I understand , you'll get through this like how you do everything else.

I hugged him and got up going down the hall.

Silas kissed me good morning and smiled

I'll get through today fine. I just hope my aunts didn't invite Byron to the ceremony.
