Y/N walked up the stone path with a mission. She kept her head high and her fingers tight around her basket of food for the Madrigals.

Why was she doing this? Because she's had enough. She's had enough of Camilo Madrigal — her supposed best friend in this whole town, deliberately and oh so obviously ignoring her. She had to get to the bottom of this. She had to know why.

It's just so unfair! One day he's so fun and rambunctious and acting like mi Cameleon and then the next, he's acting formal and distant and going out of his way to get out of mine!

Y/N's naguas scratched the dusty ground as she halted in front of the door.

Her hands wrung around the basket's woven handle. She didn't know why she was nervous... No, she did. She didn't know what to expect or what to say or how to even start the conversation. She just wanted to know why Camilo has been avoiding her.

Her hand raised to knock on the blue-coated door but she paused when her eyes drifted to one of the figures engraved on the wood.

There was his mischievous smile, his thick eyebrows, and his curly hair. His unmistakable ruana decorated with the angular shapes of the animal that was his namesake.

At least they're his namesake because I called him after the lizard.

Y/N giggled. Some of the nervousness was lifted off her chest.

Y/N sighed. Her brows now met in fondness instead of anxiety as she remembered that day she gave her best friend the moniker.

Why did I even decide to call him Cameleon when I'm terrified of lizards?

Y/N shook her head and adjusted her hold on the basket. She checked if every member of the Madrigal family could have at least one of her suman latik. She worked hard these! She even squeezed the coconut milk out of the shavings herself!

She also made sure that there's more than enough of it. Y'know, incase Camilo liked them and wanted seconds.

Camilo always wants seconds, Y/N smiled to herself.

And thirds when it comes to banana cue.

And fourths or fifths when it comes to the street foods he introduced to me.

Y/N tutted and hung the basket on her elbow so she could put some stray stand of hair behind her ear. She didn't even bother to not stop the stupid smile on her face.

"Alam mo Cameleon, batid ko may ibang puwersa ka pa talagang naiiba sa pagpapalit-anyo mo", she whispered to the engraved figure on the door.

"Dahil kahit na ikaw ang pinoproblema ko, ikaw parin ang nagpapagaan ng loob ko", she giggled.

"Para akong tonta ngumingiti dito na walang dahilan!", she exclaimed in a hush. Of course nobody replied but that little smirk on the engravement made her roll her eyes.

Y/N took her fan which was hanging from a chain pinned to her skirt and finally knocked on Casita's door. She opened it halfway and proceeded to fan herself leisurely as she waited. All the nerves have now gone.

She waited and waited and waited. She thought about talking to Casita, but she felt that only the Madrigals had the right to do that.

So, she listened. She knocked again and listened for any sign that anybody was home.

She heard laughing. Giggling even. Breathless and loud and coming from a girl.

She didn't know what that stirred something in her. She instinctively started fanning rapidly.
