3rd Person POV
Nightmare arrived at the AU. However, it was in flames.
(OK, so I'm making my own AU called DammedTale(If there is an au named this, please tell me). It's a personal hell. Destiny made this one to torture Nightmare cause she knew all along.)
Between the flames were the Bad Sanses and the Star Sanses(OK, he knows about them cause he knows the things Corrupted knows)
Dream was in tears.
"What did you do to my brother when you took him?"
Dust chuckled.
"None of your business, idiot."
Nightmare tried to run towards Dream, but a kind of dome was stopping him.
"No... LET ME THROUGH!"
He tried many times to rush to Dream, to say "I'm here.", to say it was all OK.
But he couldn't.
And again, the opposing teams fought to the death.
Nightmare had to watch. He was standing there, watching his brother almost getting hurt every time.
The pain was unbearable.
Finally, Dream succumbed to exhaustion, and the killing blow was by Cross, of all people.
The knife dug into the bone marrow, hitting the SOUL and spilling blood.
An intense feeling came to Nightmare.
SO. MUCH. BLOOD.
And when he looked, he saw his brother's blood on his hands.
ALL OF IT.
Guilt washed all
He wanted to die.
He just wanted the misery that is his life to end.
But he couldn't. He had to continue. He had no choice.
Nightmare had to watch as his brother died of his injuries.
All the gushing blood, the futile attempts of Ink and Blue to help him, the yells of pain and suffering, the dust that drifted from his brother.
His screams were nightmare-worthy(See what I did there?).
He couldn't. He just couldn't.
He had to watch as his brother said his dying words:
Why didn't Nighty come?
That made him
Why didn't he, he thought?
But inside, he knew.
It was his fault all along. HE didn't try and do anything. HE left his brother for years. HE caused his brother so much suffering. It was ALL. HIM.
Why can't I end it?
Why should I be here?
I am the cause
Of my suffering
Of everyone's suffering
Why can't I?
I can't live with this.
All this shame
All this despair
All the feelings
All the things I am
A monster
An abomination
A nothing
I can't hold on
No
No
And I don't want to
NO
NO
I can't live with all this

Why
Why can't I DIE...
Why
WHy
WHY
Isn't this my fault?

He'd been on borrowed time all along.
*You feel yourself disintegrating.
He smiled. Joining his brother in death in pain.
A good way for negative emotions to pass on.
Something told him: NO!
But the rest of him just shut down.
He sat down on the bloody snow.
He accepted his fate, thinking he deserved it.
And then, everything fell dark.
*But it refused.

Fate couldn't let that happen.

Now that Nightmare is gone, the ending can't happen now, can it?
But maybe he could help one last time.
Nightmare already had some DETERMINATION in him...
why not give it a little push?
So he added more DT to Nightmare.
*But it refused.
He grinned.
It worked.
He walked away, content.
But nothing is perfect for long...
Something will ruin it, somehow...
We'll see how long it takes.

Nightmare woke up in a tube. A lab tube.
He did what every average person would do again.
He broke the tube again.
There was a nudge that he had done this before.
What is it?
He ran out in record time, and the portal was waiting.
Something different than last time.
He couldn't recall what.
What was it?
He made sure to check the AU look first before stepping in. But why...
Why would I do that?
Over the horizon, in her cottage, Destiny let out a shriek.
"HOW?"
There is no real destiny. There is only fate and how we can change it.
