I had an idea for this when I was painting something today and just had to write it, hope y'all enjoy

P.s. Let's pretend that this takes place 2 years after the Valhalla arc so Kazutora would be 17

I drum my fingers against the metal table, letting out a tinny sounding beat in the silent room.

This is wrong, this is so wrong

Why for the love of God did it have to be him?

The sound of footsteps get closer and I sit up in my chair. Neatening the pile of papers and books that sat to my right, I take in a long deep breath.

Relax y/n, it's going to be just fine

The handle of the door turns with a click and it was thrown open. He is led in by a man dressed in a neat guard outfit and he kicks the chair out with his foot before collapsing into it.

"Hands on the table"

He does as instructed.

As he slowly raises his head, his eyes become visible from under his hair and a grin spreads on his face.

"Hello again, Kazutora"

"Long time no see, y/n" I feel the muscles in my face attempt to form themselves into the grin I so badly wanted to wear but instead I only allow a polite smile to slip through

"I've been a little busy with school work"

It's the truth, as much as I want to be here with him every week, sometimes I've just got too much to do.

"I've missed ya" My self control fails me and the grin forced it's way onto my face. I turn to my right, hiding my expression as I open an exercise book. Turning it around, I push it towards the boy sitting opposite me

"Shall we get started"

"We shall" A lopsided smirk spreads on his face as my eyes meet his.

I remember the first time I met him, it was about 6 months ago when I first started volunteering here as a tutor.

We were told up front what crimes they had committed, so that we were aware of what they were capable of. So when I was told I'd be paired with someone who had killed two people I was expecting some 6'5 tattooed, muscular guy. Someone who had a look of insanity in his eyes, someone who was blood thirsty and violent and who I'd have to battle with just to get him to listen

Kazutora was nothing like that.

True he did have a tattoo but once he explained the pure, almost innocent meaning behind it, I realised he wasn't at all the boy I thought he'd be.

When he first walked in, trudging behind the guard with his head down and eyes on the floor.
He seemed...broken, like life had hurt him one too many times.

He didn't seem like he belonged here.

He listened to me so intently, hanging off my every word when I went over his subjects with him. He asked questions and wrote down the answers I gave.

He was, in lack of better words, the perfect student

Over time he came out of his shell around me, being able to make jokes and even once he made me a paper origami heart.

That's where I made my first mistake

I accepted the heart from him, placing it on the shelf in my bedroom with pride. It filled me with confidence and a warmth I hadn't felt before.
