Fresh shivers jetted through her spine as the splendour of the sky high ceiling descended upon them. The shimmer in the air was too gaudy to keep staring at. Beyond the railing of guards at the formal little entrance was a serene situation of well coordinated dances of elegance of men and women. As the shadow of the curtains parted, the sound of orchestral music unified with her ears. It seemed to simmer into her mind as the attacked her from every possible direction.

Jangmi glowered at Seokjin. She didn't mind enjoying a little but inviting herself into a public dance was the last thing on her mind!

"I don't think I can do this."

Seokjin chuckled, "Already scared? It's actually fun."

"Scared so be it. I can't even dance! What am I gonna do there?" She replied, waving her hands in the air and almost feeling sorry for acting up.

"Dance." He replied as-a-matter-of-factly. "Follow the lead and it will be easy. After every song ends, the dance partners change."

Jangmi placed her hand on her chest, shocked, "I think I understand but I don't want to understand because this is beyond understanding."

"What? What in the world do you think you're blabbering?" Seokjin's brows furrowed.

Jangmi swallowed, trying to get a grip on the pattern of the dance that the ladies swung in. The scent of the expensive perfume and the extensive cold from the AC shafts had made home inside her throat by now. It was too cold where they stood.

"More importantly," Seokjin added with a sterile tone. "just to keep you mentally prepared: everyone's here."

Jangmi took the news in like a guest entering her home as her eyes drove through the room, fetching for signs of familiarity in the swarm of unknown faces and wild chases. And lo, what Seokjin warned her of, turned out to be a bitter truth. Between the sizzle of dances and resplendent smiles of women, danced the preeminent.

The shards of her smile fell off her face as Taehyung continued to jazz with Joo Hyun, the sight prettier than movies. Her chest pressed down as though aiming to bring her to the floor like a wounded soldier.

Jangmi stepped backwards, realising that Seokjin had entangled his fingers into hers, restraining her movement.

"Let me go, I can't do this." Her voice quivered. "I'm not doing this."

"Or what?"

Jangmi's eyes widened, "Seokjin!" She scolded.

"I'm already on duty protecting you, on a day like this." Seokjin rolled his eyes. "Get some chills."

"I know but-" She huffed irritatedly, unable to fish an excuse.

He was right. She had no right to steal his part of the fun tonight all because she was uncomfortable. What would the crowds say if his partner acted all expensive and uninterested? The least she could do was offer him a dance and maybe remember this feeling for a thousand more nights that were to come.

Such an experience was most assuredly, one of her last, owing to how unwelcom her presence had turned out to be.

"I can't dance though."

Her words fell into the hole, when the lights dimmed and brightened again with a new song on board.

Jangmi was a little late in shelling out her defence. Her feet were already flinging forward, into the warps of people, brushing past their shoulders, keeping a tight hold on the fingers of the man who was deaf to her pleadings to stop. Seokjin.

She hated him in that moment for pulling out the cards so swiftly and yet when they arrived between the heat of the crowds, sweltering with the heat that was levitating in the circle, she couldn't hold back a smile.
