CHAPTER 22

I replied "ah wala, hinahanap ko lang kasi siya kanina pa eh."

If you can lie to me then I can also lie to you.

"Oh okay, may kailangan ka ba?" Dad asked.

'Oh yes I do, I need to know why are you lying  to me." I said in my mind

"Ano ba kasi ang kailangan mo?" Dad asked again.

I replied "it's nothing, don't worry about it. Go back to your work, sorry if I bothered you. bye."

And he said "bye."

Matapos kaming mag-usap ay pumasok na si dad sa kotse at sumakay na din sa loob ng kotse ang bodygurad matpos nitong isara ang pintuan ng kotse. Nang umadar ang kotse ni dad ay binalak ko sanang sundan kung saan siya papunta ngunit bago ko iyon magawa ay bigla nalang may tumawag sakin sa cellphone ko. Pagkatingin sa cellphone ay nakita ko ang pangalan ni Kayla.

I said to myself while holding my phone that was still ringing "I could just call you back later."

Hindi ko sinagot ang tawag at inilagay ko ang phone ko sa gilid ng upuan. Matapos ko ilagay iyon ay tumingin ako sa aking bintana at pagkita ko ay wala na dun sila dad. 

I suddenly frowned and was annoyed because I didn't remember where dad's car passed. "Bwiset!" I shouted as I hit the steering wheel out of annoyance. After that, my phone rang again. I took my phone again and looked again to see who it was, It was Kayla again.

I sighed before answering the call. "hello?" I said after answering the call. She said "babe?"

I asked "why?" She said "um, where are you? Nasa bahay ka ba ngayon?" I said "um....yeah! Why?" She said "oh, I-I'm just asking hehe." 

I asked "O-kay." She said "at para na ding kumustahin ka, yun lang." Hindi naman ako nakakakibo sa sinabi niya. Parang may something sa kanya na hindi tama.

She said "umm sige na, um mag relax ka lang dyan sa bahay mo, bye babe." Sumiryoso ang mukha ko matapos niya sabihin yun. I said "wait!" She asked "w-what?" 

I said "I just want to ask you something." 

Now, You are the next to be asked to see if you are lying. 

She asked "w-what is it?" 

I asked "are you sure we didn't break up? 

Matapos kung tanungin yun sa kanya ay natahimik ito nang saglit. Habang inaantay ang sagot niya ay lalo ako nagtaka at kumunot ng noo.

She said "umm..I..I'm sure! Sigurado akong hindi tayo nagbreak up. Why would you asked that?"

The wrinkles on my forehead disappeared and I just rolled my eyes because of what she said.

She continued "It's just space babe, I just asked for space! Why would I break-up with you?"

I said "you're right, bakit nga ba makikipaghiwalay ka sakin?"

Hindi siya nakasagot sa tanong ko.

I said "you know what, maybe I'm just thinking too much, I'll just take some rest."

She said "o-okay."

I said "bye."

She said "bye."

Matapos nun ay ibinaba ko na ang tawag. I just smirked and my face immediately became serious. I said to myself "I can't believe it, I caught another liar." 

Maya-maya pa ay tumingin ako sa bintana ko at maya-maya din ay naisipan kong tawagan si Ryan. Sinubukan kong makipag video call sa kanya. Mga ilang saglit pa ay sinagot niya ang tawag.

"Sup!" He said. I said "s-sup!" He asked "kamusta? San ka ngayon?"

Seryosong sabi ko "I'm in my car." He frowned and smiled, he said "I kinda see that hahaha, what I mean is san ka ngayon?" I said "um...sa gilid ng daan, Nagiikot-ikot lang kasi ako. You know just.. exploring."

He said "oh, okay."

I asked "how about you?" 

He said "as you can see, I'm in my office at the company. Still learning hard and working hard about the company. And I still hate it...I still hate that I was forced to do this."

He sighed and He said "you know what? I tried to make myself believe that I could understand it, but I couldn't."

Dahan-dahan nalang akong napayuko dahil sa sinabi niya at mahinang boses kong sinabi "same here."

He asked "what? What did you say?"

I said "I...said I know."

Napakunot siya ng noo and asked "You know?"

I said "W-what I mean is... I know you're trying to understand why you're doing it, so even if you don't want to do it, you're still doing everything just to do what you have to do."  Ryan said "well, thanks, at least someone understands me." He smiled then suddenly asked me "oo nga pala! Bakit ka napatawag?" 

"I called to ask you something, to see if you would also lie to me." I said in my mind.

I said "may tanong lang sana ako." Ryan asked ano yun?" I said "hindi ko ba talaga na mentioned o nasabi sayo ang pangalan na Sam?"

"I told you, I can't remember you mentioned or saying that name to me." He said. Sumiryoso ang mukha ko dahil sa sinabi niya. Why do I feel like he's really telling the truth? Pero kung totoo nga yun at totoo din na nabanggit ko ang pangalan n Sam sa kanya, eh bakit hindi maalala ni Ryan na nabanggit ko ang panagalan ni Sam?

"hello? Dude? You okay?" He said. Hindi ko namalayan natulala ako. I said "Yeah! I'm okay."

He said "dude, I'm really sorry but I really need to do something." I said "No, I'm fine, I should be the one to apologize, I know you're busy and I'm bothering you just because of a stupid question. Go back to your job. Ingat ka, bye."

Ryan said "nah it's okay, I also need break and someone to talk to for just a minute,  mababaliw lang ako dito dahil sa sobrang daming gagawin. Anyways, thanks to you, and you too, ingat ka, bye." I smiled after he said that then After that he hung up. Pagbaba ng tawag ay bigla muling sumiryoso ang muhka ko at napakunot ako ng noo. I just said to myself "tss. wow I've never had so many lies discovered in just one day." 

I just smiled and shook my head in disbelief because I realized how people I thought I could trust could lie to me.

I took a deep breath and just drove home. 

I need to know the truth.

And if I want to know the truth then I have to face the one who knows the whole truth.
