Datum 41: Lock and key

Start from the beginning

I found myself thinking seriously and deeply about the things Hagalaz said.

At this point, there are way too many possibilities, but could it be? Could it be that we were just being played on?

"Aren't you supposed to be on Stella's side?" Maris temporarily broke through the silence to Von as we walked down through the empty hallways.

Maris and Hagalaz tagging up. Sometimes these two can be really assholes. But I admit that Von is deserving of that.

But the raging silence resumed immediately as me and Hagalaz pressed our sights to Von who was clearly mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted.

I suddenly felt guilt towards him. It's indeed too much to handle.

He remained silent and chose not to speak as we arrive at the door. The guards of the conference room exchanged salutes and then opened the mechanical door for us.

The cold air from the room quickly welcomed each one of us, as all eyes inside the conference room were pressed on a teenage girl sitting silently in the chair.

We never thought this situation will end up on discovering more than what we were expecting out from this half-failed mission.

The girl's eyes were quickly covered with anxiety as she saw us, but Maris slowly approached to her and offered her a cup of hot chocolate and some warm soup.

Maris would have been a perfect mother, but life might be having other plans for her.

"Go ahead, have a drink, I know you're hungry." Maris with her gentle motherly voice.

The girl just silently took the cup and sipped gently without any hesitations. My eyes wandered through her physique as we sat down towards the vacant chairs on the side of the long table.

I am not even surprised that she might be a minor, judging from how young she looked like. Her hair was deep black, with a mixture of purple hue.

What really caught our attention were her stunning gold-colored eyes. It was unusual to see those kinds of rare traits.

She then began to eat as Maris offered her warmth and smiles. It seemed that we were slowly gaining her trust as the girl started to speak. Her voice and mouth trembling out of anxiety.

"I know you will help me. I know all of you are good people." She started as Maris started to look at her.

"Yes we will help you. But first please explain what happened, and why are you here?"

"They took his majesty away! I gotta find him!" she said and started to look at Maris all worried.

Everybody looked towards each other. These things are getting more complex yet interesting.

"Calm down, please. We will help you for sure, but can we know your name first?"

The girl tried to calm herself and sat on her chair again, sighed and looked at us. Her eyes filled with hope and worry at the same time.

The room was filled with silence followed by her shaky low toned voice.

"My.. My name is Astrid Fenningwell. I am 17 years of age. And I am one of the Royal Heir's chambermaids." Her trembling voice as she gazed upon us.

Chambermaids? A royal chambermaid?

She then looked at Maris with tears starting to cloud her eyes. You can really see her heartbroken and worrisome emotions scattered all over her young face.

"My.. my family has been serving the royal heir ever since. I had been recommended to be among the few ones to serve the next King of the British Empire."
