"The only bad thing about getting expelled is that I can't walk into school with you," Lisa said bitterly, face twisted into a grimace as she parked on the curb outside the school gate. Students were staring at the two girls without shame, people seeming to slow their steps as they walked past them. Lisa, not usually one to care about people staring, glared at those whose gazes lingered a little too long through the car windows.

Managing a small smile at the blatant distaste written all over Lisa's face, Chaeyoung grabbed her hand and pressed a hard kiss to her knuckles, more of a good luck charm for herself than for Lisa. Lisa stopped looking at the students looking at them to drop her eyes to their linked hands, sighing.

"Chaeng, are you sure you'll be okay?" Lisa asked, making Chaeyoung roll her eyes and smile.

"Lis, I'll be fine," she said, forcing her voice to stay level. "I think."

"You think?" Lisa repeated, frowning.

"No, no, I know," Chaeyoung said hurriedly, shaking her head. "Jennie said that Jackson's still recovering from, you know, the fight and everything, so he's not back at school yet. And after all of that, the teachers are apparently patrolling the school like we're a prison or something, so it should be fine." Lisa raised a brow, and Chaeyoung quickly hurried to correct her words. "No, I'm sure it'll be fine."

"I still don't like it," Lisa mumbled, her eyes shooting death glares through the window again as some more students walked past, ballsy enough to actually point at the two of them.

"What happened to being proud of me for wanting to go back to school," the Korean girl said, curling her mouth up teasingly. "Where did my supportive girlfriend go?"

"She didn't go anywhere," Lisa said, eyes turning into small crescents as she smiled, kissing the side of her girlfriends mouth carefully. "She's just supportive and worried."

"Hey," Chaeyoung said, clasping her hands around Lisa's face, fingers tickling her cheeks. "I'll be fine. I'm just going to class, I'll keep my head down. Jennie will keep me company anyway."

"Okay, as much as I trust Jennie, I'm not sure how good she'll be at protecting you, baby," Lisa said, eyes gleaming with mirth.

"Yeah, she'd probably be the first to go down, to be honest," Chaeyoung said, Lisa snorting as she leaned in to kiss her again.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Speak of the devil, your questionable bodyguard is here," Lisa said, glancing behind Chaeyoung as she pouted, turning to look at the person interrupting them. Jennie stood there, fingers poised in the air as she wiggled her brow at the two of them.

"I swear she always waits for the worst time to show up," She joked, Lisa laughing, giving Chaeyoung a kiss before handing her backpack to her from the backseat.

"Chaeng, if anything happens, call me straight away, okay?" Lisa said, running her fingers through Chaeyoung's brown locks once as she nodded, stepping out of the car. Slinging her arm over Chaeyoung's shoulder, Jennie bent down to give Lisa a quick greeting, making a grand promise about being protective today. Lisa and Chaeyoung gave each other a look, smiles reflecting off each other, before they parted. As Chaeyoung walked into school, trying to ignore the curious glances of other students, she noticed Lisa's car lingering at the gate, only peeling off the sidewalk when she had disappeared into the building.

The moment she and Jennie stepped into the hallway, the energetic post-weekend buzz quietened for a brief second, all eyes on them. It didn't take long for people to begin whispering again, voice soft but loud when united.

"Hey, that's Lisa's girlfriend, isn't it. So she's back from her suspension?" a voice spoke from the side, Chaeyoung's ears pricking up at the sound.
