"I'm... sorry?" Chaeyoung said, gulping. "I don't quite..."
"That girl," Bell said, voice dipped in fondness. "Lalisa has never really been one to talk about herself to others, but especially not about her parents. They were always a sore topic for her, even with me. I know Lalisa looks a little scary on the outside, but I've seen her grow up and she's a gentle girl at heart. She's just... always closed off with other people. A little cold, you could say."
Chaeyoung's heart ached a little as Bell spoke, her voice so tender and full of love. Her words made her think of the Lisa Chaeyoung thought she knew at the beginning of the year, so distant and cold, her dark eyes piercing and hard. But, like Bell said, the real Lisa was gentle, caring, protective. Warm.
"She's never brought friends home before," Bell continued, face lighting up as she looked up at the younger girl. "So you can imagine how happy she was when she invited you."
Unable to respond, her heart full and her stomach in knots, Chaeyoung could only squeeze Bell's hand silently, the message seeming to get relayed loud and clear when Bell smiled.
"You're not gossiping about me, are you?" Lisa's voice called from the entrance to the kitchen, her form appearing moments after. Lisa's hair was still tousled with sleep, and she had only pulled a pair of tracksuit pants on, not bothering to cover her exposed chest with anything more than a sports bra. Bell rolled her eyes a little, letting go of Chaeyoung's hand to give Lisa a smack on her arm.
"Lalisa, it's rude to sleep in like that when you have guests over. Go pour Chae some juice to eat with her breakfast," Bell chastised, pushing Lisa towards the fridge. It was now Lisa's turn to roll her eyes, but did what her grandma asked of her anyway.
"Don't I get pancakes?" Lisa asked, Bell letting out a huff.
"If you had woken up earlier you would have gotten some," Bell said, wiping her hands on a cloth before turning away from her granddaughter to look at Chaeyoung, her expression shifting to one of pleasantry. "Enjoy your breakfast, Chaeyoung. I have to pop out now, but Lisa here will look after you." Turning back to Lisa again, Bell's brow was raised high and her finger wiggling in the air. "Won't you, Lalisa?."
"Yeah, yeah," Lia said, plucking the fork from Chaeyoung's hand to quickly shovel the morsel of blueberry pancake skewered on it into her own mouth, chewing happily. Bell threw her hands up, sighing.
"Don't yeah, yeah me, miss."
Smiling at their warm-hearted banter, Chaeyoung grabbed her stolen fork from Lisa, popping some into her mouth. When she served myself another bite, she passed Lisa the fork again, the Thai girl grinning as she fed herself.
"Did you wanna leave by a certain time, baby?" Lisa asked mid-chew, cutting a forkful of pancake before pressing it against Chaeyoung's closed lips, which opened willingly.
"Do... Do I have to?" She sighed, mood souring slightly. The thought of going back home to where her mother was probably still stewing over everything that transpired the day before made Chaeyoung's appetite begin to wane, though Lisa decided to make it her mission to feed Chaeyoung as much as she was feeding herself. After feeding Chaeyoung another forkful, Lisa placed the utensil down on the now empty plate, leaning her long torso across the counter to kiss her girlfriend briefly, lips syrupy sweet.
"I know you can do it, Chaeng," Lisa murmured gently, calming her. "And if anything happens, I'll be there to pick you up."
"Okay," Chaeyoung said, steeling herself.
"Good," Lisa said, hopping back on her feet to walk around, pulling Chaeyoung by the arm. "But we've gotta shower before we go, babe. And maybe while we're in there..." Lisa said, wiggling her brow suggestively. Laughing at Lisa's expression, Chaeyoung shoved her playfully, shaking her head.
