Chapter 53

Pagkauwi ko galing sa condo ni Mav, pinuntahan ko muna sila Mochi sa likod ng bahay kung saan nakatayo ang bahay nila. Natutulog na sila noong nagpunta ako doon. Hating gabi na din kasi noong umuwi ako dito sa bahay kaya inaasahan ko na tulog na silang lahat.

The first floor is quiet so I assume na nasa taas silang lahat. Most saturdays are off ng mga kasambahay so maybe they are out o baka nasa maids quarter yung iba. 

Pagdating ko sa second floor, Ate and Renzo are standing behind the door kung nasaan ang opisina ni Daddy. 

"Anong ginagawa nyo dyan?" I asked them. Nilingon lang ako ni Renzo and Ate just bowed her head and it's like she's crying. 

I don't know what's happening inside but based with their reaction, parang nag-aaway yung mga magulang namin. 

"She's not an Esquire, Giselle," rinig kong sigaw ni Daddy sa loob. "Please! Wag mo namang ipagkait ito."

I don't understand what's happening kaya nakatingin lang ako sa mga kapatid ko. 

Renzo is just staring at Ate at parang naiyak na din siya. Ate is sobbing hardly trying not to cry out loud. 

"Giselle, Charlotte deserves to know the truth. She is not a true-blooded Esquire," sabi ni Daddy na nagpaawang sa bibig ko.

I look at Ate Charlotte and she cannot contain her cries anymore. Renzo hugged her tight and my mind was in haze. What the fuck is happening? 

I moved closer to the door and opened it. Both of them are shocked nung nakita nila kaming tatlo na nasa labas. 

Mom looked at Ate Charlotte and her tears were streaming when she saw how Ate's shoulders were shaking while covering her face at Renzo's chest. 

"C-Charlotte, a-anak." Mommy called her softly. I'm just staring at them and I cannot contain the heaviness inside my chest.

Daddy is standing beside his table. I saw his fist clenched. I saw how he looked at Ate... and by seeing the expression on his face, it was so hard for him to look at Ate crying so hard knowing the truth. 

What's the truth? That Ate Charlotte is not an Esquire? 

What the actual fuck? 

"What kind of a joke you were saying, Dad?" I asked him coldly. Mommy is crying in front of us. 

Naiiyak ako pero ayokong umiyak. I just want to hear his words again. Mommy is looking at him na parang nagmamakaawa na huwag sabihin ang binabalak niya.

"Mommy!" Sigaw ko. "Don't try to cover it up now. Narinig na namin. I just want to hear it again in front of you. Loud and clear." 

Mommy glanced in my direction and she saw my cold stares were directed at her. She bowed her head and cried again. 

"Totoo bang hindi Esquire si Ate Charlotte?" I asked them. 

"K-kuya--" Renzo stopped me from asking but I cut him off immediately.

"No need to hide it from us. Just tell that directly to our face." Sabi ko.

Napabuntong hininga si Daddy. Nakayuko pa din si Mommy while she is sobbing and Ate Charlotte is still crying. 

Inaalo pa din ni Renzo si Ate but I know that he is in pain also. Kaming lahat dito nasasaktan sa sinasabi ni Daddy. 

"I'm so sorry." Mommy, uttering those words softly. 

"Ate!" Sigaw ni Renzo.

I saw Ate Charlotte running downstairs. Sinundan naman siya ni Renzo. I stayed inside and Mommy is trying to get near me.
