Chapter Seventy Seven

Start from the beginning

Naruto's chest puffed out in pride. "Great idea sensei!"

"In the medical tents with Shizune. I hear there's a lot of blood."

The blond went pale. "Uh..."

Sakura chuckled. "Not so strong now?"

The boy glared at her. "Like you'd do any better!"

"Actually- I can." The pinkette countered. Her eyes were bright. "I've worked with Shizune in the medical tents a few times. Maybe saved a few lives. No big deal." She smirked at the way Naruto gaped.

You laughed and threw an arm around Sakura's shoulders. "Watch out, Blondie. Looks like you've got competition- I think Sakura's a bigger man than you!"

The blond seemed at a loss for words. "B-but... whatever..."

You shared a look of triumph with the pinkette.

"I'm the bigger man?" She asked.

You grinned. "Of course. We women are far superior to our male counterparts." You smirked. "After all, we have to fight our own battles every month. If men had the same problems, they'd have to make the world stop for them to recover. We aren't allowed that luxury. So we've learned to be more resilient than them."

"Uh, Kakashi-sensei? What are they talking about over there?" Naruto asked from behind you.

The silver haired man shrugged. "Beats me."

You threw a look at them. "I'll tell you if you tell me about the incident?"

Kakashi chuckled. "Not a chance, shortie."

You rolled your eyes. You would figure out what this incident was. It happened while you were with Shizune... what could it be? A training accident? Did Kakashi show his face again? Did Naruto combust out of realization that ramen isn't all there is to life?

One day... one day you would know.

But today wasn't that day as your stomach rumbled and Naruto's joined in agreement.

Kakashi sighed. "Time for food then?"

"There's always time for food sensei!" Naruto skipped ahead of the group.

As you made your way towards the mess hall, you drifted over to Kakashi's side while Sakura... drifted to Sasuke's.

You analyzed them with a raised brow. "They've certainly gotten closer." You gestured to your students who seemed to be leading a decent conversation. Which was strange because Sasuke had never been the conversating type.

Kakashi hummed in agreement. "It's like they're magnetized to each other. Ever since that poison incident..."

When Sakura sacrificed herself to save Sasuke. And nearly died.

"You think he's being nice because he feels he owes it to her?" You asked.

Kakashi shrugged. "I don't know. That boy is hard to read."

You both watched as Sasuke said something that made Sakura laugh. If your eyes weren't deceiving you, the Uchiha looked like he was cracking a smile.

"Whatever the reason he's talking to her- I'm glad." You added. "He needs to trust someone. To open up to them."

Kakashi shoved you in the arm. "Sounds like somebody else I know."

You pushed him off. "Yeah, yeah. I got it you pervert." You sighed. "I'm working on it."

A warm hand rested on your shoulder. "I know. And that's all I can ask for."

You turned to face the silver haired man who offered you his signature close-eyed smile. "Thank you. For trying." He said gently.

You smiled back. "Thank you for believing in me."

"EW!!!! Couples!!!"

You turned to find Naruto with a sour expression as he glanced between the pairs his team had split off into. "You guys are gross..."

You chuckled. "Come on, Blondie! You're just jealous!"

The blond scowled as he glanced at Sakura and Sasuke. "No..." He stared at the Uchiha who was smiling at Sakura. "Girls are gross..." He looked almost... hurt.

You raised your brow again. "Just girls?" You squinted your eyes. "And what about boys, Naruto? Are they gross?"

The blond blinked out of this thoughts. He stared at you with wide eyes. "W-what?" He laughed nervously. "Didn't hear you, sorry..."

You shot him a look of sympathy- and understanding. "Nothing, Blondie. You're okay."

The blond shook his head, like he was breaking free of this thoughts- before bounding towards the mess hall. "Ramen- here I come!!!"

Kakashi chuckled. "Some things never change. For having such potential, he has such simple wants- ramen, ramen, and ramen."

You shook your head. "No one's just that simple, Kashi." You gave a small smile. "The ones who come off as basic are just better at hiding their complexity."

Kakashi looked at you in question. But you really weren't in the mood to explain the deep complexities of the human mind.

*sobs sobbingly* it hurts... thinking... it hurts...

You were not amused. "Stop being so dramatic you peabrain."

You... my own creation... turning your back on me... *sobbing INTENSIFIES*

All I wanted was to be a cottage core forest lesbian... but now I'm stuck writing anime fan fictions...

"I... do not have the mental capacity to deal with your existential crises..."

I know *sobbing stops and is replaced by quiet weeping* Oh, just get on with it already....

And you did get on with it, deciding to shove Kakashi in the arm to let out some of your inner rage. "To the mess hall we go! Feed me baby daddy!!!"

The silver haired man stared at you looking utterly mortified. "Oh god..."

You cackled in joy as he wilted. "I require sustenance, my loyal manservant! I must attain the proper nourishment if I am to continue harassing you with such vigor!"

And so you joined the rest of your team in entering the mess tent, happy to just be with them. Here, teasing Kakashi as your students smiled and laughed.

A few weeks ago, you had never imagined this would be your future. You thought you would be dead by this point.

But the future is fluid and change is always on the rise. Nothing is set in stone, not even your death.
