The entire drive went by in a blur for Five. All he could do was hold a cloth to the back of her head to stop her bleeding out on the seats, his front laced with her blood, her trembling body huddled close against him. He had slung his blazer around her shoulders, noting her light clothing, and pulled it tight at the front like swaddling her in a blanket.

One of her hands still gripped at his sweater vest even in her unconscious state. She simply refused to let go.

Five stayed deathly quiet, his eyes only on her huddled against him for warmth as her skin turned deathly cold and pallid. He was abnormally pale and tense, none of his siblings able to get a word from him, not even a glance.

Every so often, in her delirium, Lena would murmur something akin to a whimper that only Five could hear.

And each time it was the same.

Lena was cold.

Lena Flores, who's entire body was always radiating heat, like her heart had the power of the sun inside of it.

Lena Flores who had fire in her blood, at her fingertips, had never and not once complained of being cold.

Because even since she was a child she had never felt it.

Now, as they raced her back to the academy to get her looked at by Grace, along with Allison who was beginning to wake up, she felt it pure as day.

And Five was scared.

He was scared that the light in her was about to die out like a candle in the wind and that it would happen right then and there as she lay in his arms.

Allison had been rushed inside by Luther, Lena by Five, and both Pogo and a newly fixed Grace had their hands full. Pogo took care of Allison as her wounds weren't as life threatening - leaving Lena in the hands of Grace for the second time in almost a week.

Diego and Klaus flitted between the two rooms they were being treated in, though they kept their distance from Lena's bedside because that was Five's definitive spot and they were afraid he would rip their heads of if they stepped too close or said anything.

In her state of unconsciousness that came and went, Lena laid their with her hand in Five's and unsure if she was dreaming of the light humming. (She wasn't, it was just Grace.)

Diego gave blood to Allison while passed out on the floor from the sight of the needle and Five was the first one to insist that he give blood to Lena, and as quick as possible.

The entire time he watched his wife be stitched back together, a nervous wreck each time her heart rate dipped.

Grace made quick work of replenishing her blood count and keeping her fluids up by IV; she soon had the girl stitched and no longer bleeding out, but it still remained that Lena was freezing to the touch and her temperature was dangerously low for someone who could literally turn her body into a walking fireball.

Pogo and Grace had discussed it with Five and he had agreed to move her to the living room. He had blinked her into the arm chair and Klaus had helped him shift it closer to the fireplace, now giving off as much heat as it could to the shivering girl. Five bundled her in blankets and, in the soft glow of the fire, a tiny bit of colour seemed to return to her face although her state of fleeting consciousness worried them all.

Lena ended up staring off into the fire, her eyes reflecting the glow faintly in a complete daze.

"With the amount of painkillers moms giving out, I might just have to move back in." Klaus had nudged Five with an attempt at a grin, but the boy hadn't been amused. (He had grimaced and gone to check on his sister, and hadn't returned in quite a while.)
