Step one, you say we need to talk

He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk

He smiles politely back at you

You stare politely right on through

Some sort of window to your right

As he goes left, and you stay right

Between the lines of fear and blame

You begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life

It was a beautiful day, as Katherine and Elijah stood in front of each other in an alleyway in Pennsylvania.

"Is that what I am to you?" he accused her. "A means of survival?"

"Of course, you're not a means of survival. You looked out for me when I had no one. You've given me a second chance now, when no one else will." She rested a hand on the side of his face. "I love you. Elijah." He turned his face away and she put her hand down. "You don't believe me."

He looked at her.

"I want to. It's my disease. I just keep wanting to believe you, but how can I when, at every turn, you give me a reason to doubt you. I don't know you. I don't think I ever will."

She silently watched, as he began to walk away, before catching up with him and put a hand on his arm, stopping him in his tracks.

"Wait."

He looked at her hand and then her a couple of times and she got the hint, so she let go.

He looked at her.

"Goodbye, Katherine."

She silently watched, as he walked away, knowing that she'd lost his trust in her for lying to him. She'd broken their agreement they'd made centuries ago. It didn't matter what she did so long as she never lied to him. Now she knew she needed to earn his trust back somehow.

Let him know that you know best

'Cause after all, you do know best

Try to slip past his defense

Without granting innocence

Lay down a list of what is wrong

The things you've told him all along

And pray to God he hears you

And I pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong?

I lost a friend

Somewhere along in bitterness

And I would have stayed up with you all night

Had I known how to save a life
