Y/n was a junior in high school she wasn't really the party type she liked to spend most of time chilling with friends. She had average grades, all her teachers knew she could do better if she just applied herself.

Keith was also a junior, he was a secret genius but everyone just assumed that since he played football and was popular that he probably wasn't book smart.

They have math class together, Keith always tries to talk but she makes it clear that she's not interested. Today was no different.

Y/n was standing at her locker before class talking to her best friend Kelly when she sees keith staring at her from across the hall.

"Oh god"she she mumbles while closing her locker and starts to walk away

"Hey beautiful wait up "keith jogs over to them

"Keith"she continues to walk not even looking at him

"Hey keith"kelly flirts

keith ignores her

he runs up and stands in front of y/n blocking her path

"can we talk for a second"

she rolls her eyes

"nope but you can move though"

"why you gotta act like that"he questioned

"look your just not my type" she started to walk away

"what is your type exactly"he put his hand on his chin

"smart, loyal , funny, looks are a plus but im not to picky , oh and no jocks. That basically sounds like anyone but you" she chuckled

"well maybe if you get to know me-"he starts

"i dont want to know you keith"

"you know what fine , ill stop bothering you" he sighs

He usually doesn't give up this fast but he was getting tired of rejection everyday

"good , nice talk" she pats his shoulder and walks away

"that was a little harsh" kelly says catching up to her

"why do you care all of a sudden" y/n stops in front of her

Y/n always knew that kelly had a crush on Keith and thats one of the many reasons she didn't date him.

"you have Keith Powers practically eating out of the palm of your hand and you still treat him like shit."

"im just as pretty as you , i get better grades than you and you always get the guy, well not anymore im done playing second guitar to you"

"fiddle"y/n corrects with an attitude

"its second fiddle"she says nonchalantly

"your the one who follows me around everyday like a lost puppy i didnt ask to be your friend you just kinda showed up so i kept you around, i was fine before you and ill be fine without you"

She didnt mean that she was just hurt and when shes hurt she lashes out

"whatever ill just go be with keith he'll realize how much better i am for him than you ever were"

"have fun"

"fine"kelly shrugs

"fine"she says with an attitude

"FINE"kelly shouts

"fine"she shrugs and walks to her first class

after class the teacher stops her

"Miss.Y/LN and Mr.Powers can i speak to you two for a moment"

"yeah whats up Mr.B" she asks

"you're failing my class , i dont get it you ace every test but you dont do the homework why is that" he asks

"its nothing ill have the homework in from now on ok"

"oh i know it because im giving you a homework buddy"

"excuse me"she gives a confused look

"a homework buddy, to make sure you stay on top of everything and to help you if you need it"

"okay who"

"Mr.powers come over here please"

"you've got to be kidding me" she laughs

keith rolls his eyes

"Mr.powers is the best in the class he has a 92%"

Y/n feels bad for basically calling him a dumb jock earlier

"i sorry i didnt-"

"maybe you should've gotten to know me first before assuming who i was"

"can i go now mr.b"he asks

Mr.b nods

"see you after school i guess" she says looking down

keith just nods and walks away
