Chapter Twenty Four

"Sabrina, you've been in that room for over an hour," Liam's voice carried through the thick door that separated us. He's been standing outside our bedroom for ten minutes now, whiny and needy, begging to be let in.

"I want to look perfect," I said loud enough for him to hear as I curled my last chunk of straight hair.

"You always look perfect," Liam groaned, "and I need to get ready too."

"All you have to do is slip on a suit, have me tie your bow tie, maybe shave and then run a comb through your hair. Go away."

"So mean," I heard Liam grumble before his feet shuffling against the carpet got faint. I rolled my eyes, spraying the fruity hairspray in my curls, combing them gently with my fingers. Our bedroom now looked like a beauty salon threw up in it. Makeup scattered hear and there, rollers and brushes and combs and pretty little things that made my hair look good all over the floor. It was a mess but at least my dress was safely hung up in the closet, next to Liam's tuxedo, protected by clear plastic.

I gathered up my hair and quickly slipped the silver clip in to hold it against the back of my hair, stabbing bobby pins in to keep it in place.

Wow. It actually worked.

I pulled a few strands out randomly so that they framed my face and retouched my makeup.

Then someone knocked on the door. Again.

Liam was back.

"Baby, are you done?" He asked sweetly.

I debated on rather I wanted him to see me yet or not. I decided he could get ready in one of the guest rooms. I wanted to surprise him with my dress. I've been hiding it in one of the guest rooms up until now.

"Just a sec," I called out before rushing to grab his tuxedo and shaving kit. I stealthily hid behind the door as I opened it a crack and pushed his stuff through and held it out for him.

"Seriously, Sabrina?" I could hear the pout in his voice as he grabbed his stuff from my hands.

"I don't want you to see me yet," I sniffed before closing the door. "See ya in a hour!"

When a hour passed I was armed and ready, clicking my way to the top of the staircase. I frowned when I didn't see Liam in the foyer.

"Liam?" I called out, about to take the first step down when someone grabbed my waist from behind and crashed my back against their chest. I squeaked in surprise.

"You look absolutely gorgeous," Liam rasped in my ear. "Did you wear this for me?"

I frowned, glancing down at my dress. The top part of it molded to my body like the beginning of a wrap dress, the cluster of diamonds glued to my side giving the illusion of holding it in place. When it got to the top of my thighs, it became loose, moving with my body like it was water, the slit conservative without being slutty, flashing hints of my right leg with every sway of my hips. Just enough to tease Liam for the rest of the night.

"Who else would I wear it for?" I retorted.

Liam chuckled, spinning around so that I faced him, his eyes scanning me from head to toe. "I don't know dear, you tell me. Are you ready?"

He let go of my waist when I nodded and grabbed my hand in his. "James couldn't make it, something about a stomach bug."

"Is he okay?" I asked, shocked. I tightened my grip on Liam's hand as we descended the stairs.

"I'm confident he'll be fine," Liam reassured me, leading me out the door to the limo he rented for the night. A bald man wearing the customary black suit and tie held the door open for us.

"Good evening Mr. and Mrs. Collins," the substitute driver greeted us with a stiff smile. I couldn't help but notice that it didn't quite reach his pale blue eyes.

I blushed when he referred to me as Liam's wife. I became redder when Liam didn't correct him.

"Thank you Mr..." Liam trailed, trying to catch his name as I crawled into the limo. I looked back to see the man's eyes on me while Liam was checking his watch for the time. Oblivious to what was going on.

His false smile grew into a grin that made my spine straighten.

"Greg Renaldo."

.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.

"Simply stunning," Liam crooned, his lips peppering my bare shoulders with small kisses. The limo, I was sure, was zooming through traffic with ease, like we were floating. Or maybe that was me reacting to Liam's touch.

"Liam," I whimpered, trying to concentrate as he seduced me to a puddle of goo. "Why...oh! Liam! Stop that!"

Liam chuckled, releasing his teeth from the skin he bit on, after sucking the pain away, most likely leaving a hickey,

Angrily, I pushed him away and pulled out my compact mirror, hissing when I saw a small, noticeable, purple bruise stamped right where my shoulder met my neck.

"Now you look perfect," Liam grinned devilishly, "what were you about to ask me?"

I shot a glare at him. "Why are you such an ass?"

"Ouch," Liam pretended to cringe.

I sighed, grabbing my foundation to cover up the mark. "Why didn't you correct the driver when he called me Mrs. Collins?"

"Oh," Liam frowned before he smiled gently at me. "Well it's only a matter of time before I ask for your hand in marriage. May as well get use to it."

I paused. I stand corrected. He wasn't just an ass. He was a cocky ass.

"How do you know I'll say yes?" I huffed. The nerve on this man.

Liam chuckled, "Sabrina, if it weren't for the fact we've only known each other for such a short time, I would've already weighed you down with a ring so big no one would even think twice to question if you were single or not."

I scowled at my reflection. "So this is another one of your schemes to mark me as yours?"

"No, it's me making sure you never leave my side."

.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.

"Wow," I breathed as we entered the spacious ballroom. Too bad we didn't even have the chance to look around before someone was calling for Liam.

"William! It's been so long!" A woman in a sparkly red dress gushed as she threw herself at Liam. If it weren't for the fact she hugged Liam with one arm since the other was clasped together with another man's, I would've been jealous.

Liam chuckled, patting her on her back before stepping out of their hug. "Charlotte, as lovely as ever."

"Oh stop it you," Charlotte snorted, "you wouldn't be saying that if you came to my house. Those little ankle biters are already giving me gray hair."

"Only you would manage to get triplets," Liam snickered before introducing me. "Sabrina, this is Charlotte, a old family friend and that's her husband, Jason. Guys, this is my girlfriend."

"Hello," Jason greeted me with a soft, polite smile.

Charlotte beamed at me, "Justine was telling me about you. I simply had to introduce myself. Anyone who could make the lean, mean fighting machine William Collins melt had a special spot in my book of grace."

"You make me sound like a monster," Liam snorted. "Plus, Jason's worse than I."

Jason snorted, "at least I don't insult my employees everyday of every second."

"Their simply mistakes could ruin my rank on the board," Liam scoffed snottily.

"You're three ranks higher than me, when those the rivalry end?" Jason sighed. He was a tall man, up to Liam's height though he didn't have the muscles Liam like to flex whenever he caught me ogling them. Jason was more lean, but still in shape. Or as much as I could tell in his tux.

"When you finally hand your company over."

"Okay! Thats enough, why don't we go to talk to the Duncan's and see what they're up to," Charlotte cut in, rolling her eyes at me to show her annoyance at our significant others. "See ya William! And it was nice meeting you Sabrina!"

We waved goodbye as they scurried away.

"Why don't we find my mother to see where we're sitting?" Liam suggested, wrapping his arm around my waist and leading us more into the ballroom.

Sadly, that didn't work out. Everyone was curious about the mysterious woman in Liam's arm, so they eagerly jumped whenever we finally escaped another dull, yet polite, conversation. To distract myself while the men talked business with Liam and the plastic women on their arms gave me judgemental looks, silently asking 'why her?', I looked at the room I was sure Rachel designed. It was gorgeous, the whites and golds making the room look like it came out of a fairy tale. Large circle tables sat near the stage with white linens trimmed with gold. Eight, simple chairs surrounded each one, all with flower center pieces with a long, white candle sticking out. There was also a bar and a spot were the band quietly played a orchestra piece for dancing and mingling.

"Champagne, ma'am?" A woman asked me, snapping me out of my thoughts, in a white button down tucked in black slacks and a matching bow tie around her neck. She held a tray of crystal flutes in one hand.

"Thank you," I picked one out while Liam did the same.

"So how did you manage to snatch this little beauty for yourself William?" the older man whose name I didn't catch asked. The woman beside him gave a noise of displeasure. He ignored her.

"What can I say? It took a little time but she finally decided to give me a chance," Liam grinned arrogantly, tightening his arm around my waist, crushing my side against his. I shot him a glare before taking a sip of my drink.

"I'll trade here Fiona here for one of your Sabrina's any day," the man chortled. His hairline was receding and his stomach was beginning to bulge out. What did this woman see in this man? Dollar signs?

"Tom, my name is Tracy," she hissed, glaring at her date.

Tom snorted, "I have enough money to buy you another name. Get over it."

"It was nice talking to you Tom but Sabrina wanted to see my parents, I'll see at the next board meeting, yes?"

Tom nodded eagerly, his eyes trailing up and down my body one last time before Liam steered us both off.

"That bastard needs to keep his eyes to himself," Liam sneered, the polite smile he'd been sporting slipping into a frown. "It's disrespectful on your part and mine."

"Thank god, I actually thought you liked him," I sighed in relief.

Liam simply shook his head, glaring ahead of him. "Remove your makeup."

I frowned, confused.

"The stuff you used to cover my mark," Liam clarified, stopping by the bar to place our flutes on the marble countertop.

"No!" I gasped, covering my neck where he bit me that was caked with foundation.

"They need to know you belong to me," Liam growled quietly, caging me between the edge of the countertop and his chest.

"I'll rather you fucked me on the dance floor than flash this hickey around for the world to see," I hissed angrily at him.

His eyes lite up.

I gave a noise of frustration. "It's not that serious Liam, it's not like I'm planning on walking out this room with another man. I know I belong to you, isn't that enough?" I cupped his cheek gently, trying to make him see sense. "I love you, why won't you believe me?"

Liam's hard expression melted as he removed my hand from his cheek to give it a soft kiss. "Of course I do...and I suppose you're right. I'm acting like an asshole."

"Just a tad bit," I teased him, kissing his cheek. My high heels allowed me to do so without having to stretch on my toes like usual.

"Why don't we find my family before they send out a search team?" Liam suggested, running his tongue against his bottom lip. I blushed softly, quietly nodding my head. Liam took my hand in his and lead me away from the bar and to the orchestra where his parents resided. They were talking to a couple around their ages, Rachel twinkling laugh seeming to go along with the violin piece that was playing.

"Oh look who decided to grace us with their prescence," Daniel chuckled loudly, spotting us first.

"Sabrina!" Rachel squealed, rushing over to me to squeeze me in her arms before letting me go to study my face. "I'm so glad you're here! I was afraid my oldest son scared you off!"

I smiled sheepishly, "I wouldn't have missed this for the world."

"I'm so glad! Do you want to see the others? I'm sure they're lurking in some dark corner and don't worry, we set Garrett straight! He's been given strict orders to apologize and be on his best behavior."

I giggled, "thanks Mrs. Collins."

"Again, call me Rachel. Mrs. Collins is my mother-in-law. You better thank your lucky stars I'm not like her. Woman never did warm up to me, not even after seven children."

"Wow," I mumbled.

"Exactly," Rachel rolled her eyes. "You'll meet her at our annual garden party. I'll apologize in advance on her behalf."

"I'm good, mom, thanks for asking," Liam drawled sarcastically, reminding us that he was still standing next to me.

"Oh hush now, it's only my second time meeting the girlfriend you like to hog for yourself. I don't remember ever raising you to be so selfish," Rachel huffed.

"Please. The boy use to put up a temper tantrum every time someone touched his toys," Daniel snorted. Just then a petite brunette skipped over towards us wearing a head piece.

"Mrs. Collins, its time to give your speech," she announced, glancing at her wrist watch minutely.

"Very well, come dear husband of mine. Sabrina, Liam, Georgia will see you to your table."

The brunette, Georgia, turned to face us. Or Liam, more importantly. Her brown eyes glazed over as she checked out my boyfriend with obvious interest as she subtly adjusted her blouse. I pursed my lips, not use to the jealousy that ran through my body. I grabbed his hand, stepping closer to his side. Georgia noticed that and looked up to catch my eyes, a small smirk on her face, accepting my challenge.

"Of course, right this way Liam and...?" She trailed off, as if Rachel hadn't said my name already.

"It's William to you," Liam growled, shocking us both. Fortunately Rachel and Daniel had already left. "And are you too dense to realize my mother already said my girlfriend's name?"

Georgia's eyes widened as she stuttered. "O-of course William! I'm sorry, it was Sabrina right?"

I didn't bother answering, simply stuck my nose in the air as Liam let go of my hand to wrap his arm around my waist, his hand resting high on my hip.

Quietly we followed her to the table in the middle where half the Collins clan already sat. Helen and her husband Robert, Justine and her husband Oscar, and Anne Marie with a blond man she mentioned she was taking when we went shopping for my dress. I raked my brain, trying to remember his name.

The only ones not sitting with us were Garrett, Mariah and Lawrence and I couldn't help but feel like Liam had something to do with that.

"Sabrina! You look amazing," Helen gushed as Liam and I sat down. I blushed under the attention everyone was giving me.

"Thank you," I giggled, fiddling with the napkin I placed in my lap.

"Totally hot. And this is Fernando by the way," Anne Marie, jerking her thumb at her date. "This is Sabrina. She's dating my idiotic brother, Liam."

Fernando chuckled as he greeted me with a head nod at Liam and I. "Nice to meet you both."

"Likewise," Liam grinned at him.

"All you guys look beauiful," I complimented the woman back as I tried to sit a little taller.

"Thank you!" They all said in unison, making the whole table laugh.

Helen wore a red floor length dress while Justine wore a cream one that was had rhinestones gathered at the bottom. Anne being Anne wore a black dress that flared out around her waist with ruffles and stopped above her knee.

I looked up when I saw movement on the stage. Immediately everyone began to clap as Rachel walked up to the podium with Daniel beside her. He stopped a little so that he was standing behind her.

"Goodevening everyone," Ravhel greeted us when the clapping died down. "I would like to thank every single one of you for attending this ball tonight. We maybe glammed up to the nines but we all know what this is for, and no is it to flash our money, but to give back to those who don't have the same priveleges as us. Our goal was to raise 6 million dollars tonight, we doubled that to 11.5 million and are now able to help not only ten cancer patients, but five more and I couldn't be more blessed than I am now."

Wow.

Rachel continued on with thanking everyone before stepping down the stage so that everyone could eat now. Each plate costed one thousand each so I made sure to savour the flavorful food.

"Would you care to spare me a dance?" Liam asked, brushing a lock of my hair behind my ear. I nodded eagerly, taking his offered hand to help me out of the seat.

"Sabrina, are you a witch?" Liam hummed, pulling me closer to his body as we swayed gently to the music playing, Liam easily dodging the people dancing around us.

"No?" I said incredulously, wondering where he was going with this.

"Are you sure?" He chuckled, dipping me low before slowly lifting me back up. I blushed at the heat in his eyes.

"Why are you asking me this?" I breathed.

"You managed to worm your way into a heart I thought was dead and then charm everyone else with such ease. You consume my every thought and just thinking about being away from you pains me. I feel so protective of you, I just want to lock you in a dungeon with myself and keep you in my arms forever. I've never had such intense feelings for someone Sabrina so if you have a spell on me, keep it up because I never felt so alive."

Liam's words left me panting as I tried to compose myself.

"Why did you snap at that girl?" I blurted out.

Liam frowned, "what girl?"

"Georgia."

Recognition colored Liam's face. "Oh. Her. She threatened you."

"Oh," I mumbled, and then admitted sheepishly, "I thought you would've liked me being the one that's jealous for once."

"I thought I would, but it only served to piss me off that she had the nerve to look at you like that," Liam huffed, getting worked up.

"May I cut in?"

Liam and I stopped dancing and looked to the side to see Garrett standing beside us, his hand extended to me. The two brothers seemed to have some sort of quiet conversation before Liam stepped back and allowed his oldest brother to take my hand.

"Just one," Liam muttered before stalking off.

"Is he a stick in the mud around you too?" Garrett tried to joke around but I ignored him, looking away from his face. "Okay, I guess I deserved that."

"You deserve far worse," I snipped, wanting the song to end now.

"I know. My wife and mother remind me that everyday," he sulked and I almost felt bad for him. Almost. He embarrassed me and his own blood in front of family and was going to have to do way more than apologize. "Look, how about you and Liam join Mariah and I for dinner at our house? That way I can explain somethings in private and plus Katie and Alex are dying to see you again."

I simply nodded, stepping out of his arms when the song ended.

"Thank you for the dance Sabrina," he smiled genuinely. "And I am truly sorry about dinner last time. It was petty of me to judge you from the spot and I'll do anything to get into your good grace."

"You're welcome," I murmured. Garrett hesitated before nodding at me in goodbye before stepping away, Liam soon taking his place back in my arms.

"What did he say?" Liam asked immediately.

"I'll tell you later," I sighed, "and we're having dinner at their house."

Liam grinned, "good. I've missed my little terror twins."
