Rick, Shane and Daryl were handling it while everyone else did just as Dale had predicted – hid their heads.

Beth came out of her room for the first time and found me sitting quietly alone on the couch, just staring at the ground. Patricia was preparing dinner with the aide of Jimmy while dad had retired to his room and Maggie had gone out to the camp with Glenn

"It's so quiet." Beth whispered, gently sitting beside me. "Are they really going to do it?" I only needed to look at her to give the answer before she broke eye contact. "We could sing."

"Beth..."

"Please. I don't like the quiet." She stated. "Not now." I sighed and gave in, nodding, not being able to say no to her batting eyelashes any more than dad could. Beth reached for my guitar and handed it over.

"Which one?" I asked.

"Lullaby. It was mum's favourite." She didn't mean Annette. Even though Beth barely remember our mother, we all knew that she liked to sing and that particular song was her all time favourite and she particularly liked to sing it to us if we weren't well or were feeling sad.

I began to strum along the first few opening chords, the notes impossible to forget along with the lyrics.

Well, I know the feeling

Of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge

And there ain't no healing

From cutting yourself with the jagged edge

I'm telling you that, it's never that bad

Take it from someone who's been where you're at

Laid out on the floor

And you're not sure you can take this anymore

So just give it one more try to a lullaby

And turn this up on the radio

If you can hear me now

I'm reaching out

To let you know that you're not alone

And if you can't tell, I'm scared as hell

'Cause I can't get you on the telephone

So just close your eyes

Oh, honey here comes a lullaby

Your very own lullaby

Please let me take you

Out of the darkness and into the light

'Cause I have faith in you

That you're gonna make it through another night

Stop thinking about the easy way out

There's no need to go and blow the candle out

Because you're not done

You're far too young

And the best is yet to come

So just give it one more try to a lullaby

And turn this up on the radio

If you can hear me now

I'm reaching out

To let you know that you're not alone
