Chapter 8

HARUMI'S POV

"Lloyd,buddy?", Kai called,"Are you in there?"

"We just wanna talk,"Cole added.

Lloyd's frozen face twisted into sudden anger. Without really thinking about it, I placed my hand on his face, looking at his eyes, shaking my head.

His angered face faltered-his face was full of worry.

We locked eyes-a silent conversation passing through us-he nodded.

"Lloyd", Kai called, knocking,"Please, we're sorry okay?I shouldn't have said anything about Har-OW! What was that for?!"

"She's in her room! She might hear you!", Zane whispered back.

Only I wasn't. I was here. In Lloyd's room.

Lloyd and I exchanged horrified expressions.

"What do I do?!", I mouthed,"They can't know I'm in your room!"

His horrified expression turned into a face of a mix between confusion and amusement. I wasn't sure.

"Why not?", he asked, lips twitching,"we are friends, aren't we?"

We were friends, but the look on his face when he said made him seem to be suggested something else.Something that sent my heart sky-rocketing.

"Well?", he mouthed back, when he didn't get an answer out of me," Aren't we?"

"Of course we are!", I whisper-snapped,"But what do you figure they're gonna think when you're right infront of me, holding my hands?"

He blinked, and looked at our hands. He hastily took his hands off mine, his face reddening. I smiled smugly, feeling victorious.

"Okay then-Just stay here", he whispered,"I'll think of something."

I nodded. He swung the door open.

"What?", he asked, his voice lingering with annoyance.

"Oh,Lloyd!", Kai whined,"Don't look at us like that!"

"Buddy we're really sorry", Cole said," Ofcourse we didn't mean that-

"I know-don't worry about it", I heard Lloyd mumble.

I heard Kai and Cole sigh before Cole said,"Look Lloyd, about the whole...Harumi thing-"

"We know you still like her."Kai blurted out.

I froze.Him? Like me? Yeah, nice joke, Kai.

Yet, I couldn't help the fast beating in my chest. Could he really...?NO. he couldn't. No person would ever-after what I did-

"Uh...",he said, clearly stalling as he knew I was listening,"We're just friends."

Friends.The word hit me harder than I thought. Yes, I knew we were friends but-something between us felt...more? I don't know. Must have been just me.

I held back a sigh.

"Lloyd",Kai said, in an unamused tone,"Stop lying-I saw that."

"Saw what?", Lloyd asked, his voice sounding really uncomfortable now.

"The look on your face when you said friends. You can't hide with us, big shot.", he laughed.

I wish I could see his face now, I thought, I'm sure its red as a strawberry.

"Ummmmmm", Lloyd said,"Could we PLEASE talk about this somewhere else? Not in the middle of the hallway, right in front of my room."

"Okay then let's talk inside your room then", Kai said casually.
