You sighed as you looked around the gym, feeling an empty presence in the room.
You hoped to see the Ace and the libero for the team, but there was no such thing.
"They're really not coming back, are they?" You breathed out, carefully looking at the new members along with some returning members as well. You were standing next to Suga, watching with a distance look as Daichi yelled at some first years.
"Yeah, I guess not," Suga said with sympathy laced into his voice as he put a hand on your shoulder. You nodded, ignoring the dragging feeling in your heart.
Ever since Karasuno lost against Data Tech last year and he quit volleyball, you and your ex-boyfriend, Asahi, decided to take a break. Of course, neither of you wanted to, but Asahi said he needed space and you respected that.
But that was the last time you guys talked to each other.
"Come on, let's go save those poor first years before Daichi crushed their souls."
You were a manager on the team ever since the first year, you fell in love with Asahi. You guys started dating around the end of the year when you confessed to the shy giant.
"Hey uh, Asahi? I uh like you, a lot."
You had a sad smile on your face as you could still remember the stuttering and blushing mess when you confessed.
"R-Really? I uh really like you too! W-Will you be my girlfriend?"
You snapped out of your daze as the doors shut closed and you could hear someone banging on the door from the outside.
"What happened? Did- Did you guys lock those two first years out?" You asked with a hint of laughter as you pointed at the shaking door.
"Yeah, isn't that a bit much," Suga asked, raising an eyebrow at the captain. Daichi simple shock head, putting on a face he had every time he was going to make a captain-like and mature speech.
"Those two need to learn how to get along to be good teammates."
You and Suga nodded, going back to the rest of the team.
"Welcome everyone to the Karasuno Volleyball Team..."

"...and have a good day!"
You walked out of your class, seeing a certain shorty running towards you.
"N/N!"
An instant smile came onto your face as the shorty tackled you into a hug.
"Noya! You're back!" You laughed as Noya jumped off and started talking about how bored he was at home by himself.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you go before you get another suspension?" You mused, Noya perking up when he saw the vice principal walking towards the two of you.
"You're right! Gotta go!"
You laughed a bit, turning back around to make eye contact with familiar dark brown eyes. You instantly tensed up as you saw Asahi quickly turn around.
God fucking damn it-
"Hey, N/N!" You sighed in relief as you gave BF/N a thankful look as she looped her arm through yours, pulling you away to your next class.
You took a quick glance at Asahi who's head was down with a somewhat dark look on his face.
Huh, strange.
Once you guys were away from earshot, you let out your breath that you didn't know you were holding as you turned towards BF/N.
"Thanks-"
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm the best." You laughed as you sat next to BF/N, talking to try and get someone off of your mind.

"Is Asahi back?"
You tensed as you looked at the piece of paper in your hand of all the possible matches planned for Karasuno. You pretended as if you didn't hear them and continued flipping through the pages.
"Keep it down. And no, he hasn't."
You heard some shuffling and you heard Hinata speak up.
"Asahi? Who's that?"
There was a sharp pain in your heart that made you winced as you fumbled through your bag to hide your face.
"He is the- well he was the ace of Karasuno before he uh quit-"
You heard Suga pause as he hesitated before talking again with a quieter voice.
"He's also N/N's ex-boyfriend."
You could feel multiple eyes bore into the side of your head as you pulled out a pencil and started to write whatever on the paper.
"What happened?"
That's it, I can't.
You felt tears prick at the side of your eyes as you sat on the bench, facing away from the players.
"Well after getting blocked multiple times during a match, he lost all confidence and left the team."
You were thankful that Suga didn't say how you guys broke up, you didn't think you could handle that without breaking down.
Man, just a couple of months ago, everything was just fine.
After that day, you and BF/N were in a class about to leave when you heard 2 familiar first-year voices.
"Asahi? Come join volleyball again!"
You glanced over to see Hinata and Kageyama in front of Asahi. You felt your heart clutch up as you turned and looked at your bag.
Well, looks like we're not getting out of the classroom. Those two could talk for hours on end You thought, trying to ignore your other thoughts.
"U-Uh no. Why are you guys so persistent?"
You purposely packed yourself slower, earning a quick glance from BF/N.
"Because I wanna see the ace of Karasuno play again! Plus the third years aren't the same ever since you left!"
After some persuading, you heard something that almost made your heart stop.
"Fine, I'll think about it."
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
"Asahi! Come on!"
You perked up to see the shy boy poke his head through the doors.
"You came just in time for the first-year practice match!" Daichi said as waved and pulled Asahi all the way in. Your eyes met each other, only for a second, but somehow your heart still skipped a beat.
You sat next to Kiyoko, watching the match play out. Your eyes always drifted towards the ace, but you every time you quickly pulled your eyes from him before anyone could notice.
Get a grip Y/N!
The match ended with Asahi scoring the last point, winning it for his side of the team.
Even after not playing for so long, he still proves to be the ace.
It was the next day and you didn't even realize you were zoning out during lunch, think about a certain ace.
"N/N!"
You jumped in surprise at BF/N who slammed her hands onto your desk.
"Jeez, BF/N! What is it?" You started laughing a bit, but quickly stopped when you saw BF/N's face.
"Go talk to him."
You face paled as you look at BF/N with a disbelieving look.
"You want me to what now?"
"Yeah, I know, but hear me out. You're sad, he's sad. Together, you guys aren't sad!"
You looked up at BF/N, a conflicted look on your face.
"But how do you know he's sad? How do I know that he doesn't want space?" You argued, lowering your voice when you got some stares.
"For this long?" BF/N argued back, tilting her hand a bit in an intimidating way.
"Wouldn't have he made move by now if he thought that the break for long enough? Instead of letting months pass of not talking?" Your voice cracked at the end which you winced as you stood up yourself.
"Come on L/N! You know him! He's shy and a great guy, he wouldn't just break it off without telling you! Plus I don't wanna hear you complaining about this for the rest of your life!"
You bit the inside of your mouth as you sat back down, defeated.
"Fine. I-I'll talk to him."
Why did I agree to this?
Volleyball practice ended and you were torn between going to talk to Asahi or wait until the weekend was over.
You stood still in your spot, slightly twitching as you weren't sure what to do. You took a step forward before immediately turning back.
Oh whatever, I'll do it on Monday. Hopefully, BF/N doesn't kill me-
"L-L/N?"
You immediately stopped, your breath hitched as you hesitated before turning to face the shy boy.
"Y-Yeah?" You cursed as you stuttered, letting your arms drop down to your sides. Asahi carefully walked towards you, looking for any signs of discomfort.
When you didn't, he sighed in relief, a nervous smile on his lips.
"I'm sorry, I was angry a-and disappointed in myself that I made the worst decision of my life. I-I didn't mean to wait this long, but I uh got nervous last year and didn't know if you still wanted to be in a relationship with me."
Before you could say anything, he opened his mouth again while taking one of your hands in his.
"And as days turned into weeks that eventually turned into months and I got nervous, scared even. A-And the more time passed on, I realized how much I actually needed you in- in my life. If you uh would take me back."
You looked at Asahi's nervous and red face as you tackled him into a hug. You tightened your arms around him as you felt some of your tears soak into his shirt.
"I'm sorry I didn't make a move. I-I wasn't sure if still we were still on break and I'm sorry that I didn't talk to you about," You mumbled against his neck. You felt nice and warm back in Asahi arms.
"No don't apologize, it's not your fault." Asahi pulled back a bit, wiping any remaining tears.
Instead of answering, you connected your lips together for the first time in months. You lightly pulled on the hair that wasn't in the bun he always wore.
You pulled back a bit, touching your foreheads together.
"I miss us," You muttered, feeling Asahi brush a piece of your hair out of your face.
You felt Asahi nodded as red invaded his cheeks.
"Me too. Will accept me back?" He asked with a hint of nervousness which you laughed at. You connected your lips again before pulling back the slightest.
"Of course."
