These days - Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen

Pain. I could feel pain.

Everything was quiet, only the faint sound of rustling from the trees could be heard. A few times, the car would make some creaky noise. Every time that would happen, my breath would hitch in anticipation.

My first attempt at trying to open my eyes failed. I tried again but when they still wouldn't open, I decided to use another one of my senses.

I started to lift one of my fingers. I blanked out the pain that shot up my arm each time I managed to move a finger. Then I moved another at the same time and soon I was able to curl my hand into a fist.

It's progress.

With more determination, I lifted my hand up to the car roof. The car roof that was currently flat on the road.

The car had tipped upside down when it finished rolling.

I finally managed to flicker my eyes open only to gasp at the sight. The whole of the front window had been smashed, the glass pieces were scattered around the car—including the inside. Smoke was coming from the engine and was flying up into the dark night sky.

Instantly, my head moved to the driver's seat where Xavier was. My head was pounding from earlier when I bashed it into the window but I didn't care. I was also aware of the dried blood on my face and my bleeding leg. Once again, I didn't care about that right now.

Xavier was still strapped into the driver's seat, with his head leaned forwards. Blood was dripping from him onto the car roof. When my eyes followed the source of it, I gasped in shock at the piece of glass sticking out of his stomach. Oh god no.

Xavier was unconscious. Every time I called his name, I received no response. I even tried to shake his shoulders but nothing happened. At least his breathing was even.

I need to get us out of here. I thought. It would be safer to get us out of here and away from the car. Then I will call the paramedics. The sooner I get it done, the sooner people will come to help Xavier.

With that plan in my head, I quickly unbuckle my seat belt, immediately falling to the ground. Letting out an anguished cry at my fall, I crawl up. My right leg, that had been bleeding, was protesting at my movements but I didn't pay any attention to it. Xavier is more important.

Trying to unbuckle Xavier was harder than I thought. His seat belt was jammed; every time I yanked on it, my efforts were not rewarded.

"Come on stupid buckle, just unlock," I mumble in frustration, yanking on the seat belt harder. Eventually, it unlocks and Xavier collapses onto me. Well, he falls on half on me. Now I have to work out a way to get us out of the car.

I rest Xavier completely on the floor and climb over him to get out. The cut on my leg was only getting worse, I hadn't realized how much I was starting to lose until now. My upper leg was beginning to feel numb from the blood loss which clearly isn't a good sign.

Stumbling out of the car, I turn around quickly and grab Xavier's legs. Xavier's a heavy guy, most of him is pure muscle meaning I would never be able to even carry half of his weight. Even pulling him out of the car was difficult, I had to stop at least eight times for a ten—second breather.

When Xavier was close to the door, I rushed over to his head and gently lifted that half of his body up, whilst being mindful of the glass wedged in his stomach and turn his body to the side and then I lift his shoulders up and pull him further away. Once again, it's hard to do. I have to limp backward which means moving him is harder. I also have to check on his stomach to make sure I'm not moving the glass any further.

I learned not to move things that have been impaled on you because then that would cause more blood to come out. Thank you, NCIS.

Once we're far enough I collapse onto the ground and rest Xavier's head on my left leg. I tugged a bit of my bloody dress and ripped a piece of the bottom. I tied it around my leg tightly.

After that, I searched through Xavier's pockets to try and find his phone. I put my phone in my purse which is currently in the car. There is no way I'm going back over there after the effort it took me to get away from there.

My hands grasp Xavier's iPhone and I unlock it. Xavier is one of those people who doesn't bother to add a password because he doesn't see the point in it. I've told him countless times to add a number code just in case somebody stole his phone but he never listened to me. Xavier's a stubborn guy, just like I'm stubborn.

The home screen is a picture of Xavier and me from when we hung out at the local park. I smile sadly at the trip, it was a simple trip but I had never been happier from it. Just spending two hours with him at the park was enough to make me the happiest girl alive. And that's why I don't want to lose him.

I love him so much. He's always been there for me and so now its my turn to return the favor. If I lost Xavier...don't go there!

Rapidly, I press the call button to 911 but of course, we don't have any bloody reception. Could the timing be any more perfect? So I send a message to Cora, Ren, Jess, and Derek in hopes that one of them would see it and call for help. The message briefly described my whereabouts, what happened and that Xavier was badly injured. Hopefully, they received it and called for help.

"Impressive," a male's voice remarks from behind me. I jolt at the voice and look over my shoulder.

Standing a few feet away, leaning against a black BMW is a young man. He looks maybe twenty to twenty—one year old with light brown hair and vibrant green eyes. The same green as me. With his muscly arms crossed over his chest and his lips pressed into a thin line, he watches me.

Chris. This is Chris, my older and crazy brother.

When he's sees my face turn into something of recognition, his lips turn upwards into a satisfied smirk.

I quickly hop up and stand in front of Xavier's body in an almost protective stance. Chris assess me for a while and then he pushes himself up from his BMW. I note the massive dent in the front of the car, the front of the bonnet is crushed and it has some smoke coming out of it.

This is the car that crashed into us. On purpose.

Chris tried to kill me.

"Chris," I say, my face and tone emotionless.

If I lose Xavier—something I don't want to consider at all—then I will never forgive him. Brother or not, on the path to redemption or not, he will never gain my sympathies. Xavier is my world. He has made me a better person.

"Annabella, my beautiful and gorgeous sister, its so good to finally talk to you in person." Chris smiles. The way he smiles sends shivers down my spin—and they're not because I'm cold.

I narrow my eyes at him, "cut the pleasantries brother." I spit his name out like vermin. "Why did you do that?"

Chris blinks for a second and then cracks up in laughter. The sound of it echoes throughout the forest. "You—You seriously have to ask that?" He asks through fits of laughter. Just when I think he's about to stop laughing he bursts out with more laughter. It starts to get on my nerves. I know he's doing it on purpose, to get to me. I have to refrain myself from showing how much he is getting to me.

"Enough!" I yell. "Okay, I get that you're angry. I would be too if my family abandoned you for years but there's no reason for you to do this." I tell him, gesturing to the wrecked car and an unconscious Xavier.

Chris suddenly stops laughing, his face turning neutral. One would never think he had just been dying of laughter. The way his mood changed so quickly is terrifying.

"Oh sweet Annabella, its like you don't know me at all. Of course, I had to do this." Chris soothes, his voice hushed. When Chris takes a step forward closer to me, my breath hitches. Goosebumps erupt on my very pale skin and my heart thumps in my chest loudly in fear.

"You want revenge," I state, matter of factly. Chris nods his head and gives me an expectant look to continue. "You want to hurt the people who hurt you because you hurt them. But you're not seeing how this can go in an endless loop? How the revenge cycle will just continue. Please brother, stop whatever you're planning to do and help me save my boyfriend."

For a second his eyes soften and I get a glimpse of hope but like I said, it was for a second because his green eyes then flash dangerously and practically throws daggers at me.

"Don't you dare pull the brother card on me now," Chris harshly says. "You don't deserve to call me that. Not after all of these years. Yes, I want revenge and yes I'm going to get it. I'm going to destroy all three of you."

I gulp at his murderous expression. Chris looks ready to kill someone. Me.

"You're going down sister."
